Quote:
"I have two grandchildren — Maggie is 11, Robert is 9," Gingrich said at Cornerstone Church here. "I am convinced that if we do not decisively win the struggle over the nature of America, by the time they're my age they will be in a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists and with no understanding of what it once meant to be an American."

o_O

Let us panic now.

I can't wait to see how that works! And she needn't worry--I doubt America will ever come to its senses enough to be truly secular.

Let's pick apart right-wing logic.

First some definitions:

  • Atheism: Lack of belief in the Christian god: the three-in-one trinitarian god of Father in Heaven, the son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. This follows from the premises that there is only one true god and the Christian god is he. Since atheists do not believe in gods, it's self-evident that atheism applies to all non-Christians.
  • Secularism: The promotion of a government and public sphere separate from religious/spiritual life. Since this does not explicitly promote Christianity, it is atheist by default. Freedom of religion refers to the right to pick and choose among denominations of Christianity only rather than to a godless, secular state. To assure right-wingers that you are not promoting atheism, absolutely all communications must be prefaced by "by the grace of God" (e.g., "By the grace of God, this lunch-special menu published anno domini MMXI."); this is required even of preachers lest we fear they have converted to some paganism in the morrow. Anything less than restoring the Christian church to its historic role in the state is promoting atheistic secularism at the expense of religious freedom.

From this, it follows that Islam is a cult, not a religion, whose members are atheist since they do not worship the Christian god. Any agenda that promotes secularism also promotes radical Islam due to their shared atheistic goals.

Wait, what? How can you have a secular atheist state dominated by radical Islam? It wouldn't be a secular atheist state then.

Even though I see you're being ironic, that may well be the thought process behind that comment. GAH! I am so glad I don't live in the USA. In Canada even our right-wing people tend to be closer to the Democrats than the Republicans!

Actually, Gingritch is extremely well educated and quite intelligent. Unfortunately he is very wrong minded on several issues. Do not confuse being disagreeable with stupidity.

How man PhD's in History do you have?

Attention hysterical people: Please get your story straight!

Europe is destined for sharia law, because all their wetbacks come from the muslim countries of North Africa and the Middle East.
The USA is destined for, not Sharia Law, but for a return to the Spanish Inquisiton. This is because our immigrants come form Latin America (which is mostly Roman Catholic).

I know that you cant help being hysterical. But-you know- look insane- OR look stupid- but dont do both!

Let's add politico.com to the list of unreliable sources, then.
