The US claims that it is. They always say that this war is about "civilization versus jihadist ideology".

However, if we look at history, how many wars are actually about good versus evil?

Iran versus Iraq in the 1980s...who's good?...who's evil?

World War One...which side was good?...which side was evil?

Sunnis versus Shiites in Iraq...who's good?...who's evil?

I'm kinda confused here...is this war on terror really distinct from past wars or is the US all wrong on this. I don't really trust everything the US says especially with their staunch support for Israel. I don't even need to go into Israel do I? Netanyahu acts all victim about everything crying for international help while at the same time signs approvals for settlements building on Palestinian land.

The War on Terror makes about as much sense as the War on Frontal Assault.

The only time you get a true good vs. evil war is in fiction. Real wars are all about self-interest.

I would love it if George Bush started reading this thread.

He's too busy working on his ranch and counting his speaking tour money.

You do know that Bush didn't originally come from Texas? I heard he was from one of the north-east states. Proof is that his brother was the governor of Florida at some time. Bush never started with the texan accent as well. ;p

Well he was born in Connecticut but raised in Texas so I think the accent is probably real, dunna why Jeb doesn't have one though lol. Maybe he wanted to be taken seriously? :P

Well it has been said that Bush "made" himself. =/

And yeah, our teach once showed us an old documentary ( from the...uh... 70-80s i think) that said that the texan accent wasn't really socially favored amongst the broad american populace.

I can't see al-Qaeda winning. At least at the moment. They are all about making chaos by sending people to blow themselves up at random places, wherever there are crowds. How can you win with chaos? I guess that might be their definition of winning. They want to see the world without stable governments.

Aside from the "war on terror" being a deceptive term, it can be seen as "good versus evil" in that those who will employ terrorist tactics to impose their will on others are doing "evil." To fight against such oppression is "good."

Now, who are the "terrorists?"

That's one of the reasons I enjoy Star Wars. You KNOW who the bad guy is.

Though even in Star Wars the lines get pretty damn murky eventually. After the point where 326 trillion people died everybody seemed far more cynical. Even fictional wars aren't always clear...

I've downloaded, and will eventually watch, Valley of the Wolves

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493264/

I usually don't watch war/action movies, but this one compels me.

Well, for one thing, US soldiers aren't purposely threatening the well-being of civilians to achieve their goals. In fact, there have been cases of US soldiers being tried for deliberately killing civilians.
