I have the same leaning. Expectations can lead to frustration, and projections can also go beyond reality. So, the challenge is to have hope without only ever merely hoping.

I agree with the sentiment, but agree also with you_are_what_you_is in that hope is a misnomer, it's almost got a theistic quality to it, which i dislike.
I had a version myself ... and I just thought of it again, after ... hrm, it's been years...
