Me, paranoid? Who said so?!
Is anyone on here (in the U.S. or otherwise) besides me, absolutely worried sick about what is happening in America? 10 years ago I would have said I was getting paranoid but 10 years ago we didn't have the Bush administration. I also never would have thought hurricane victims would ever be locked in a superdome to die in their own excrement. And 911, the more I learn, the more I don't believe the official story. I could name more stuff but it would take too long. I'm getting to the point where I can agree with those who say there is some kind of Orwellian neocon plot to destroy this country from the inside out and menace the rest of the world. And apparently has been in the works for years. And these guys can snoop our medical records if they want to? What will that mean for aspies and auties? Why do they need our medical records? would a terrorist go in to a doctor and say, Doc, I have a pain in my left shoulder and I don't think I'll be able to fly an airplane into a building tomorrow, so can you fix it? I can think of a country we were once at war with. Guess what solution they employed for certain people they deemed inferior. I hope I'm wrong but I don't trust these guys not to try to weed some of us out or at least permit a die-off.
The US government has always committed atrocities, lied, and tried to cover its own collective ass. The difference is that now we have mass media and the internet, so it's more difficult to cover up.
What concerns me is not as much what the government is doing (though obviously I find it worrisome), but how little the average person cares. Our form of government cannot work successfully without an informed populace, and the American population is the exact opposite. Worse, the apathy has reached such heights that most will believe the first lie they're told...by anyone, be they media reps, campaign managers, or politicians...rather than formulating their own thoughts, because it's easier.
There is an Orwellian neocon plot; they're pretty open about that. The irony to me is that that's not what's ruining this country. What's ruining this country is the entitlement-laden attitude of the should-be voters, who cannot even be bothered to turn on their televisions to watch a debate in a federal election, let alone participate in their own local government. If the people actually bothered to get involved in any kind of larger percentage, actually bothered to contact representatives (or bother to vote to elect better ones), actually bothered to participate and educate themselves on what is going on around them, we would not have most of these problems.
The US has basically become an isolationist country, and almost all of its plans are failing elsewhere. Things like military coups and government overthrows are not working anymore. Argentina basically threw out the IMF, and now Venezuela and others are preparing to do the same. Europe has been intimidated by the US in many ways, and follows its plans, but there are France and Germany who do not. Spain also no longer is intimidated. The US is slowly losing its ground, and now all the United States can do is scare its own population about every little thing, whether its Muslims, terrorists, killer bees or the bird flu. It doesn't matter what it is, because fear is the only thing left for the US. Even the US economy is going down the tubes, but then our economy is quite rigged that even if it does begin to go down the tubes, they can alter economic statistics to wave through more tax cuts for the rich.

I am not paranoid about what is happening. I do think that our economic policies are not perfect for dealing with our problems, Bush's tax cuts should have gone hand in hand with spending cuts and even though a recession was coming I think the fear is over and therefore he probably should have withdrawn those tax cuts so that we would not have to worry about deficit. There is a difference between Keynesian economics and just wasteful deficit spending.
The snooping by Bush is something that will not affect anyone who is not doing anything wrong. Our government can suppress people if it wanted to but I tend to doubt that it really cares enough about most people to do that. Certainly if you think it is bad then oppose it but really it is probably more wasteful than it is bad, if the government is trying to clamp down in some Orwellian fashion then it is doing a horrible job, Bush having an approval rating of 30% just shows that. People loved Big Brother, people don't love the government.
Just look at it this way, the current administration is too impotent or incompetent or both to destroy us, because of their failures the Republicans will probably lose important elections for Congress and then lose a lot of power. That is probably all that will happen. Really, all it is is just more politics in action but really the stupidity of the American people might really spell out doom for our country but that is largely because America has become complacent, if things start seriously going downhill then we will probably snap out of our fairy filled daydreams and try to improve things, I just wish that our culture would allow that change to happen now though.
Well, no party should be trusted to naive ideals. Both the Democrats and Republicans are trying to make deals with their people. The concept is known as "retail politics" both parties promise and promise and if the people aren't satisfied then that party suffers the next time around in elections because if people are angry with what is going on they are less likely to elect incumbents. Yes, bread and circuses is part of the tale, however, bread and circuses cannot always be provided and therefore parties do have to make some long term decisions for their own well being. However, bread and circuses is how most systems would be run anyway.
