Favorite Biblical Phrases (or paraphrases)

Maybe there are some here who have a favorite saying from the Bible? I do. Here's one.



Better are the wounds of a friend than the kisses of an enemy.

So what does that phrase mean? It is so vague/ambiguous that I cannot decide what it is supposed to mean.

Luke 9-NKJV

23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily,[a] and follow Me. 24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. 25 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? 26 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.

a part of a sentence (yes, I know that is not the exact definition of phrase so please do not lecture me on the difference between sentences, clauses, phrases, etc.) or even a paraphrase: putting the saying in your own words but retaining the meaning.


Here's one: The worker is worth his pay.

The original says: The laboror is worthy of his wages.

"Why do you call me good.
There is none good but G-d."

May the underserved kindness be with YOU people.

"Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."

"Thou shalt not kill"

Brought down from Mount Sinai by Moses just before he ordered the mass slaughter of men, women and children (because they had decided on another religion while he had been away)

Deuteronomy, 22:20-21
