Why I'm not *too* disappointed in Obama

I never had high expectations for him in the first place.

I'm amazed at how many foolish US left-progressives thought Obama would be much better than Clinton. I remember commenters on Daily Kos filled with glee commenting on how the DLC had been discredited and would no longer form the core of the Democratic Party establishment as Slick Hillie lost. It turns out that didn't happen - Obama's invited many DLC, WallStreet Democrats into the fold (and he's invited the hawk herself - Slick Hillie - to be his Secretary of State).

And there were so many foolish progressives who fought that, as weak as Obama is on defending progressive policies, the Republicans would implode due to ideological extremism and inner-party wars. It turns out that inner-party conflict and the ousting of sitting Congressmen and Senators for corporate funded, Tea Partisan primary challengers has strengthened the Republican Party. Rather than becomming a Rump (as Krugman foolishly predicted), the Tea Partisan Republican's extremism appeals to disenfranchished, non-ideological, white working class voters as novel or distinct from the corrupt culture of conventional Washington. A repeat of the Republican Revolution will come November, Obama will fire Rahm Emanuel (yes, Alexander Cockburn made this prediction before me), and Slick Willie style austerity measures and conservatism will come. Oh - yeah - and a shoot-load of frivolous investigations into the President's Office by a Republican congress.

Frankly, why would ANYONE vote for a politician from Chicago (just getting into Chicago politics is a dirty game) and expect honesty, integrity and capability?

My first exposure to Obama was a campaign ad (before the DNC) where he did some BS on an airplane and a bottle of colored water. I could tell from his demeanor and playing off the latest air safety scam that he was a political opportunist. He was too slick...too polished, and since I already have a given distrust of politicians, it only reinforced that he wasn't being sincere. Since then I've not seen him do a singe thing that separates him from the dirty world of Chicago politics.
