Seems like an overreaction to me, a gun and a good alarm system would cost a lot less than going into hiding, plus it wouldn't give the a**holes the satisfaction.

Yes, agree.
The idea of an American cartoonist having to change her occupation, her name, and go into hiding in the USA seems rather extreme to me too. It also provides comfort to the terrorists since it's a signal the cartoonist is now fearful and scared. Is the FBI going to pay the bill for all of this identity change? For how long? 1 month? 1 year? 10 years? 50 years?
Also, will the USA newspaper decide to run only favorable articles about Islam from now on? Favorable cartoons?
Will the USA newspaper decide to portray Osama bin Laden as a hero rather than a villain to reduce retaliation from terrorists who go after USA cartoonists?
It seems to me like the advice being given the cartoonist is wrong as the advice is giving an advantage to the terrorists.
Also, how can the US Supreme Court continue to give Islam non-profit, tax-exempt status when it threatens the life of an American cartoonist?
What would Monty Python say?
At least the US Supreme Court could make Islam a for profit religion and have to pay taxes and fees for killing innocent American cartoonists at random so to speak.
