I'm loving how this all is upsetting our western ideas.
A democratically elected president, who happens to be a radical traditionalist muslim autocrat. And army, that attempts a coup against said democratically elected president, to maintain the laicistic state turkey was intended to be. Acvusations against another radical traditional islamist in exile, who preached that education is more important than prayer.
On top of that all of Europe who needs to cooperate with the traditionalist muslim autocrat, who will now take posdibly bloody revengen on the military and as it seens just about anybody he feels like.

Fukuyama was an idiot, when said, history was over.
And, yes, I feel for the victims and their families, and am merely deliberately distancing myself to deal with the horror.
I do not want to offend.

This was exactly what I was thinking...

The army had the right idea, to eradicate a future evil dictator before he gets complete and absolute power...
But my that was the lamest try eva. I'm pretty sure one of the shortest coups in history lasting about 10 hours.

As the Tirkish army has seen itself as the power defending the laicistic stats, they regularly took over any government that become to religious in the past.
Erdogan didn't get to where he got if he hadn't weakened and infiltrated the military on his way up.
Aaand there's the thing about him actually only recently having been re-elected.
A majority of the people actually want him.
Whether they consider where this is going is another question.

Istanbul deputy mayor shot in the head at City Hall

Quote:
An unknown assailant has shot the deputy mayor of Istanbul's Sisli district in the head.

According to Turkish broadcaster NTV, the victim was in a critical condition.

It was not immediately clear whether the incident was linked to Friday's abortive military coup in which more than 200 people were killed.

Turkey remains in a state of high tension, though the government says it has the situation fully under control.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erodgan has said he will rid the country's institutions of the "virus" of those who oppose him.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 42811.html

this is going to be purge the likes we haven't seen since the 20th century, Erdogan is using it to rid the country of all those that oppose him which is almost half the country

bad bad situation, still 42 helicopters missing so it is possible the coup is still on or that more violence might occur altho I am guessing those helicopters are for evacuating those that planned this. Erdogan has ordered F-16s to shoot down any helicopters in the air over Turkey.

The Republicans have missed a historical opportunity for not supporting the coup and soon will regret it.

It's only a matter of time before the anti-erdogan people hit the streets and revolt.

And it might turn really ugly.

As it has been proven in all other muslim countries: Seculars and Islamists can't simply coexist - or to be more accurate, nothing can coexist with Islamists.

Highly doubtful 2,745 judges were part of this staged coup.

The top counter-terrorism official responsible for Turkey’s campaign against Islamic State did go to a “meeting” at the presidential palace in Ankara. He was later found with his hands tied behind his back, shot in the neck, according to a senior official.

what a surprise considering Erdogan actively supports ISIS

The list was certainly prepared before the coup.

^ Historically they are tough people in face of crisis; they are EastAsian-like (maybe due to their Tatars origins? lol) in that and don't have the typical laziness of Arab nations.

14 Navy ships missing from Turkish military along with alleged 42 missing helicopters

Who knows what is actually true, I feel like we're not getting the real information about what happened Friday night in Turkey and what is happening right now in the country.

heard something like 50,000 people have been arrested

they really botched this coup, it doesn't make any sense how it collapsed

Erdogan should of been killed, as said when you strike at a king you'd better kill him. Apparently two F-16s had their targets locked on the Erdogan plane when it was on its way to Istanbul, why didn't they shoot?

the conspiracy that it a was hoax the entire time by the Erdogan government to stamp out opposition doesn't seem that far fetched at this point

I'm wondering if NATO would still welcome him if he ends up committing mass murder. He even denied historical genocide, which means it's apt to repeat.

The presidential plane lied and said it was just a regular turkish airlines civilian flight. Better yet, why not just attack his convoy from the air while he headed to the airport?

It is unfortunate that Erdogan didn't die but he had the majority of his country's support who flocked to the streets to defend their dictator. The majority of muslims in these muslim dominated countries just don't want human rights and freedom, they yearn for an islamic dictator to rule them with an iron fist. Those who want freedom are unfortunately the minority.

People who say he was democratically elected, well guess what? North Korea has elections as well, I guess that means that Kim Jong Un is democratically elected and that North Korea is a democracy.

Or Russia, whose opposition party leaders have a habit of being asassinated or imprisoned.
