Good one
I think the US media has a huge chuck of responsibility. The American media was once a standard of insight, investigation and independence. It was a power. It was one of the thing that made "America Great" in the eyes of the world. With the flow of news increasing since the 80's, the most relevant news and analysis got slowly buried in the tickers.
Real time got it all and there is no need now to think a piece of information before posting it, the big new idea is: you have to be the first to post it. Since the end of the 90's, Internet has lowered the marginal cost of an information to the minimum and has amplified this effect on mainstream media
Now the media has become a caricature, picking the most unusual news and putting them on the front page. These news strike and sell. The following attempts of in-depth analysis become comical. Politics use them, Economy use them, And even the satire is resigned to use direct quotes in their cartoons. Today it seems that America is great, because it's the God's chosen country
I think the good information reporting in still somewhere, I find it sometimes and I am struck by their quality, for me the US has still the lead in the news reporting and analysis, it is just buried.
