In argumentation, has anyone noticed that if a person makes a statement that might indicate an association with a more extreme perspective that others often assume that they hold that extremist view and treat them with ridicule according to their opinions and psittacisms regarding that perspective.

Example:

Person 1: I think employers like Wal-Mart suck.

Person 2: You hate capitalism!! ! You must be a communist! Communist!! Blacklist them immediately!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !

Many people seem to make great leaps of arrogant and/or ignorant or agenda-driven assumption or presumption ... and thus the confused debates begin at the expense of all useful dialogue!

Lol.
I don't do that...except for one thing.
If you like Obama, I will call you a socialist.
Sorry, but our president is an idiot.
But usually I try not to make huge assumptions.
But Obama is a socialist just sayin.

What if someone likes him for some completely different reason?

Then you must be a traitor to the Glorious U.S.S.A. comrade, since to like anyone for a reason other than their economic views and mismanagement of money is treason!

Goodness yes, being on the recieving end with about half my posts.
And I find this to be about the worst and most intolerant and abusive forum Ive ever been on.

Of course I can sympatise with thier point of view, but why do they have to resort to insults, If I am wrong about a view, wouldnt it be better to show me evidence of the error of my thinking that I might adjust it?in the same way that Iam offering my views and knowledge that others may not know of, that they might adjust thier viewpoint.

I abhour lies and deciept, even ones that would benifit me, I would have thought all Aspies would have prized truth, but see Iam wrong and that some get angrey when any viewpoint that differs from thier own is offered.

The original question is an expression of such an insult by accussing somebody of supporting an ideology just because they offer an alternative view on it, not for a minute considering that the person might just be an impartial devotee of truth for its own sake.

For instance with me, living in the West, I get the constant anti-Muslim propogander, suicide bomber, terrorist etc etc, so I looked into it myself, read the Koran, read the Hadiths, looked at the truth being all this Muslims are terrorists stuff, and consequently get people asking me if Iam becoming a Muslim or something.

One of the best examples of that is: "Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists." But then it's well known that George W Bush is a moron.

Morons have their own problems. They don't need to be insulted.

The problem with all or nothing mentalities is that there is a difference between overlapping opinions and cherry picking facts and positions out of convenience.

That is actually not a problem when one has a love for truth. For true seekers or investigators, overlapping opinions merely produce more questions.

George W. Bush can fly a jet plane. That is something morons generally cannot do. You may very well argue the Bush is not the wisest or most sophisticated man to hold the office of President.

Bush was in the air national guard. he was never a navy pilot and he never flew on or off a carrier while in the Air National Guard.

I think that says more about him being manipulative than stupid.

As for the topic, yeaahhh it is a problem when people just fill in the blanks based on one statement. Ohhh you want less government huh? Yeaaahhh? How's the patriot act working out for ya?
