Here are some of the people I'd like to meet if they made it:
1. St. Thomas Aquinas (the patron saint of students and my own patron saint as well. In fact, I'd like to be his personal librarian. I've often pictured myself in one of those angel robes flying around his library (or as a naked angel) .
2. C. S. Lewis (my all-time favorite writer. He just HAS to be there or there'd be no justice in the world)
3. Jimi Hendrix (IMHO, the greatest guitarist in Rock n Roll ever!)
4. All of my friends, family, dogs, and cats I've had growing up, including those I met online
5. John the beloved Apostle
6. The Virgin Mary (I find her the most fascinating person in the Bible)
7. My guardian angel, who I've named Aquinas (yes, I talk to her. Yes, I know I'm weird. Now, knock it off! Besides, everyone's weird, even the normal ones).
8. God of course
9. Paul the Apostle

Realized who I didn't mention. In my version of heaven: Satan. We could have some pretty interesting discussions.
(some fundamentalist is going to yell at me now. Feel free to do so. I am immune to your ranting.)

I don't think Martin Luther and Jesus would be on speaking terms. Jesus was a Jew. Martin Luther, despite being a devout Christian and the founder of Protestantism, advocated cutting off the limbs of Jews. So, let's assume there is a heaven and that Martin Luther went to it because he's responsible for the increase of literacy, and with that in mind I think Jesus and ML would be pretty distant towards one another.

Actually it's hard to say who would have gone to the cloudier afterlife because all sorts of really evil people have been glorified as heroes by history textbooks (such as Chris Collumbus basically being the Hitler of his era)...but I guess the main governing attribute is whether or not you have an abnormal amount of faith, isn't it?

Okay, well with that in mind, I'd like to meet all those people who were right bastards but got into heaven because they believed in it, and kick 'em in the balls*, one by one, for their cheapness. (Mormons and scientologists would get two kicks.) I guess I'd be banished to hell for that, but hey, as an atheist I wouldn't exactly have the option of going to heaven anyway.

*I'm just being silly here. I abhore real life violence.

I think I'd like to meet up with a few dead friends and rellies. Starting with my dad (he died of cancer) - I'd like to see what he thinks of this aspie business, and then we can tackle his father and father's father...

I'd want to meet King Solomon; and I want to meet Moses, the one who led the Israelites in the Exodus. Those people shaped, if not built, the Jewish history. It'd be really nice to know what they're like. Then again, Judaism has no clear concept of the afterlife: since no one came back to tell about it, we have no way of knowing for sure. So I can only hope.

Barracuda,
I'm really glad you said that. Wouldn't that be awesome if in the end even Satan accepted God's love and grace!

Are you talking about the christian god? If so, the christian god does not have any love or grace. According to the writings in the christian bible, their god is a murderous psychopath.

On the other hand, if you were talking about your own personal belief about a god (not the christian god), then my comment does not apply. Although I am pretty sure that you were talking about the christian god because you do not seem to be the sort of person who has sufficient fortitude to form her own independent beliefs about a god and without being affiliated with a religious cult/organisation.

If you reject the christian bible, then you CAN believe that your god is loving and graceful. However if you simultaneously revere the christian bible and think that god is loving, then you are contradicting yourself.

Hmm, assuming there is a heaven, I'd have so many people to ask, not counting the Almighty, to whom I will put to the question (and not the sort the Inquisition liked to do).....

The way Christianity describes God as a bad-tempered egomaniac seems to be a total contrast to Judaism. (It's kind of ironic, since Chirstianity has roots in Judaism.) The Jewish religion describes God more like an objective but actively involved third party. There are things you're required to do, and things you're forbidden to do; other than than, you're responsible for your own actions.

That doesn't make you responsible at all. Why do religions mandate specific behaviour. It seems to me that if you're thinking about killing someone, then you should do it and go to hell. Why do people need to be told how to live their lives in order to go to heaven? Shouldn't god just take those who know naturally that killing a son/brother/husband(this was before women were usually killed) is generally a bad thing?

Postscript-This is all fairly rhetorical, as I am an atheist.

I forgot to list emp as one of my 10 I hope to see in heaven.

Emp, God loves you, even if you don't think He does. I'm sorry your life so far has caused you to be bitter about love & grace.

In Christ,
MMM

Cue the nasty sound effect of an unholy being being drenched with holy water.

PSsssssssssssshhhhhhhhhh!! !! !

As I said, if God exists (and so does heaven), I've got hard questions for him.
