Ultra-right conspiracy lunacy is nothing new.
Here is an article on the history of the John Birch Society. It's of note that the rhetoric of Glenn Beck is eerily similar to that of 1960s Birchers (all the talk of "puppet master" bankers, one world government conspiracies, pejorative use of the word "progressive" to demonize president Woodrow Wilson and others as being tied to communism, etc.). Beck is also a big fan of W. Cleon Skousen, a fellow Mormon and Bircher who wrote a revisionist historical fiction novel called "The 5000 year leap" which paints the founding fathers as proto-anti-socialists and devout Christians.
It's also interesting that Fred Koch, the founder of Koch Industries (a major American oil company) was a leading founder of the John Birch Society, and his two sons Charles and David Koch have poured massive funding into the Tea Party movement.
All of this can easily be googled.
Here is an article in the New Yorker on the history of the John Birch society and it's relationship to American conservatism and the Tea Party Movement.

Another article titled "Glenn Beck chases "far left radicals" in White House, but loves right-wing radicals himself". Isn't the irony wonderful? You can always tell who is the actual radical because actual radicals project their own radicalism onto their political opponents.

And another article in Newsweek on the conspiratorial Bircher-esque roots of the Tea Party and its Obama derangement syndrome.

But what about Glenn Beck himself? Beck has shown a powerful affinity for right-wing radicals dating back at least to his days at CNN's Headline News, when he declared his sympathy for the John Birch Society (in its campaign to stop the non-existent "NAFTA Superhighway") and warned that Al Gore's real purpose behind his "global warming campaign" was to install a global government. (Back then, it was Gore, not Obama, who was just like Hitler.)
It's only intensified since he left CNN for Fox. Given the freedom to let his fetid imagination run amok, has quickly amassed a massive record of mainstreaming ideas and talking points from the genuinely radical right of American politics. (The accompanying video gives you a 17-minute compendium of Beck's extremist rhetoric.)
We noticed this back when it first surfaced amid a raft of other Beck wingnuttia. This week, Alexander Zaitchik in Salon published a devastating rundown of perhaps the foundation of Beck's radicalism: His ardent adoption of the ideology espoused by W. Cleon Skousen, one of the most radical of the old "Church-Birch Connection" gang of LDS elders who spread Bircherirsm throughout Mormon-land. (I remember seeing The Naked Communist on the bookshelf of many of the Mormon homes I grew up around in southern Idaho, including several in my family.) Salty City Sinner noticed the Skousen connection back in March too.
Skousen, as Zaitchik explains, was so far out on the fringe he even made the Birchers nervous:
Beck not only avidly endorsed The 5,000-Year Leap on his program -- it was one of three texts he told everyone who watched his show to read as part of "The 912 Project," since the very phrase "912" came from Skousen (whose book details the "9 Principles" and the "12 Values" Beck employs). He also wrote the foreword to is newest edition, in which he told readers it was "divinely inspired" -- something repeated in his blurb for the book:
"I beg you to read this book filled with words of wisdom which I can only describe as divinely inspired. You will find answers to questions plaguing America, and more importantly you will find hope. I know I have!"
Beck also promoted The 5,000 Year Leap on the 912 Project Blog, and listed his "12 Values" on the Fox News site. Lawdy, when the first "912 Project" aired, it was truly a sight to behold.
The result, of course, was that Skousen's book shot up the bestseller charts:
"Everyone should read this book," the conservative talk show host said as he passed out copies during a recent broadcast. On his radio program Friday evening, Beck touted the book's climb to No. 1.
Skousen published "The 5000 Year Leap" in 1981, nearly 25 years after he published "The Naked Communist," a national bestseller that has sold more than 1 million copies.
Just how far out on the far right was Skousen. As Zaitchik explains, some of movement conservatism's leading poohbahs fled screaming from him:
"Skousen's personal position," wrote a dismayed Quigley, "seems to me perilously close to the 'exclusive uniformity' which I see in Nazism and in the Radical Right in this country. In fact, his position has echoes of the original Nazi 25-point plan."
Hey, it may be that Glenn Beck is uncovering true radicals within the Obama White House -- though all we've seen so far is a McCarthyite smear job of Van Jones and his fellow "czars" and some videotaped corruption within a community-volunteer organization that has no official or other connection to the White House.
But what about the far-right radicals lurking in Glenn Beck's own closet? It might be time to take a longer and deeper look.

Wilson a communist? A ton of people were thrown in prison under his Sedition act, predominately socialists, communists, and anarchists, for voicing their opinions against the war and his administration. Socialist party candidate Eugene Debs spent the duration of his campaign after Wilson's second term in a cell because of it. Interestingly, during that year, he won the most votes of any third party candidate ever.

They're NWO loons, and they buy into all sorts of other conspiracy nonsense. Additionally, they are known as being a far-right extremist group who opposed civil rights and believed Dwight Eisenhower was a Communist agent hell-bent on destroying America.
The point of the article seemed to be, "Beck and his followers are just the newest iteration of these idiots."

Possibly so, but how and/or where are they actually wrong? For example:
What about the so-called "Federal Reserve" is actually Federal, and where is the alleged "reserve"?
Maybe I actually have been deceived by a bunch of nuts, but is nobody else capable of comprehensible explanations?

Not if you want a single unified explanation that neatly attributes blame for everything bad that has ever happened to an evil cabal dedicated to... well, they don't really know that, either.

No, no, I am not asking for that. Without merely pointing out anyone's nuttiness, I am only asking for someone to offer some rational explanations for the things the alleged "nuts" so readily talk about. For example:
Henry Ford once thought he might have a formula for world peace, but then he later discovered it was best to just participate in making money from war ... and now I would like someone to explain the global financing of war.

Their need to rewrite history, change the meaning of words, promote paranoia of "hidden enemies within". No legitimate philosophy should ever need to alter facts and reality to promote itself. I just can't trust such people. It makes me suspect that they are wolves in sheep's clothing. They are 1984 creepy.
The heads of the Fed are appointed by the president and they are subject to review but it's rarely done. A lack of econ fans in the legislature is more to blame than any conspiracy...you want something done then vote in a keynesian legislator who will actually be able to approach the matter rather than some dumbass loudmouth who makes his checks by just shouting randomly about values and jobs.

If he did, he probably realized that any such solution would require a LOT of funding.

What about the so-called "Federal Reserve" is actually Federal, and where is the alleged "reserve"?
The American Monetary Institute has a decent article on control of the Fed:
http://www.monetary.org/federalreserveprivate.htm
Is the Federal Reserve System a Governmental or a Privately controlled organization?
Students of our monetary system quickly encounter this important question, normally phrased as whether the Federal Reserve System is part of the U.S. Government or is a private organization. The importance people are placing on the answer is indicated by the over 36,000 web sites the question raises on internet search engines.
We’ll examine evidence in the Federal Reserve legislation; in how the Fed operates; from Congressional testimony; from statements from the Federal Reserve’s publications; in statements by former Chairmen of the House Banking Committee; and in official rulings by US courts, to show why we conclude that although there are some elements of ambiguity, the Federal Reserve system is essentially dominated and controlled by private financiers, not our government; and to the extent that there is ownership of it, it is entirely private. Therefore despite the ambiguity – and confusion - the Fed is more accurately seen as a private, not a governmental institution, though with substantial governmental ties.
The ambiguity arises from a combination of misleading appearances; the fact that our President appoints (with consent of the Senate) the Chairman of the Fed to four year terms, and the 5 member Board in Washington to 14 year terms; the fact that the Fed is supposed to promote governmental fiscal policy; and the fact that the system was originally set up in law by Congress in 1913 and can be altered, nationalized or even dismantled by Congress.
Most Americans understand that the Fed controls our money system, but they believe its part of our government, as would be expected of any organization holding that much power over the destiny of our country. Americans also erroneously believe the banking business consists of accepting deposits from clients and then re-loaning them to borrowers at a higher rate of interest. Though the number is definitely growing, most Americans have no idea that money (or more accurately interest bearing bank credits - purchasing media which serves as money) is created by the banking system when loans are made, through the fractional reserve provisions. This is understood by few novices, and often economists and even bankers fail to comprehend that they function as part of a money creation system, when they issue credits, and deposit them into their client’s accounts when loans are extended.
Therefore most Americans would be surprised to learn that almost all of what we use for money is not issued by our government, but by private banks. They have been “allowed” to form erroneous assumptions about our money and banking system that are far from reality and that serves to shield from closer scrutiny, whether the Fed is truly operating in the public interest or advancing more private agendas, either on purpose or by default.
Organization And Ownership:
The Federal Reserve consists of 12 regional Federal Reserve banks, with boards of Directors, under an umbrella direction of the 7 member Federal Reserve Board in Washington, with the power to determine major aspects of banking activity, such as setting interest rates, and the reserve and other operational requirements. There are no shares of the Washington Fed Board organization; the only “ownership” of the Fed is in shares of each of the 12 regional banks which are entirely owned by the private member banks within their respective districts, according to a formula based on their size (they must subscribe to the shares with 3% of their capital plus surplus). The ownership is highly restricted in that such ownership is mandatory; the shares can’t be sold; and they pay a guaranteed 6% annual dividend..
Thus the stories that the Federal Reserve is “owned” by foreign bankers (the Rothschild’s and other prominent banker names usually come up) are not accurate and these types of rumors have mainly served to discredit wholesome criticism of the banking system. While it is true that our first central bank, the First Bank of the United States, upon dissolution in 1811 was found to be three quarters owned by British and Dutch interests, that bank was structured simply as a private share company on the Bank of England model.* The control of the Federal Reserve System is more difficult to untangle and is not just a matter of counting shareholder votes. While foreign bankers might indirectly own shares of the regional Federal Reserve Banks through ownership of American banking companies, such ownership would be reported to the SEC if any entity held more than 5% of the American corporation. This however does not exclude strong, potentially undue foreign influence, for example through the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

So how come you have George Orwell in your avatar, if you're not against the current big brother state? Do you believe Orwell would support todays left wing overgrown governments?

False duality. He probably doesn't see it in such crass, vague terms that you see things in.

Why is it that all the sources used in this thus far have serious credibility issues.
Newsweek is having financial issues because people have stopped reading it (cause it has lost credibility).
Crooksandliars is a known left-wing propaganda site.
And Newyorker's name pretty much says it all as to why it probably has no objectivity.
If these are your star witnesses, your case is in serious trouble.
