This is something I think about from time to time; why don't I use a politics specific forum as opposed to this weird set of topics shoehorned onto an AS support board? Nothing about this forum makes sense, yet is works relatively well and has a dedicated following within the greater WP board. I know my reasons for posting here and posting style have changed radically in the time that I've been participating here, so I'm curious to hear other poster's reasons for patronizing this particular forum and what motivates them to return here.

I'll follow up with some of my own reasons and their evolution later, for now I'd just like to here what others have to say about this place.

I put 'other'. I read this forum for the same reasons people watch car crashes. :oops:

Intellectual stimulation.

You make me think about the things I think about;
I make you think about the things you think about;
You make me think about the things you think about;
I make you think about the things i think about;
Your and my making each other think about things we think about
offers other people some new thoughts of their own to think about.

Quiz: Which above line is the shortest of all?

Against your own thoughts, mine may not fare much better.

I'd say it's more for intellectual stimulation. Lots of good reads, points, ideas and things to think about here.
I might have got a bit bored with the other forums full of depressive stuff.

Some combination of above.

To learn and to also make intellectually trapped people see the intellectual freedom that I see.

I stumble in here once a month or so. I don't know why. I quickly learned that posting in this section is completely pointless. I'm going to go with boredom and a desire for self expression and creativity.

I'm just very passionate about politics. I enjoy discussing it and expressing my opinions even with people that I disagree with.

something compels me to argue, even if I should have given up awhile ago. I do enjoy arguing though.

Intellectual stimulation first - the chance to discuss things that just never come up in the day to day. Or maybe they do and they're the subject of those earnest discussions my NT acquaintances are forever having with each other. How would I know?

Honing skills second, in the way of iron sharpening iron...painfully dull-edged as I am myself, there's hope.

Correcting a stereotype third - hopeless as that is, it's still in the mix.

I am here to be argumentative, although sometimes the discussion of topics about space is more interesting than random argumentation.
