Is using Nazi references in a debate good idea

I been attanding quite a few political rallies (mainly tea-party), and it seems that so many idiots feel it is ok to call others they don't like Hitler,Himmler, Nazis, (or make comparasons)
At the Tea Party rally last year in C-Bus O-HI-O, I saw one guy had a sign with a picture of Obama wearing a Hitler like mustace and hair and the words on top said, "Seig Heig Obama."
Rush likes to use the Feminazi term which is just as disgusting. People on the left compare Bush to Hitler.
I personally find using Nazi References to be downright low. It cheapens thw worst crime to ever happen in the 20th centry. Stalin killed far more people than Hitler of course, but he didn't trget people because of their race or ethnic.
While I think Lord Obamort is proberly the worst president in the USA history, I don't think he threw 12 million people into gas chambers and cremetion ovens.

Where am I wrong?

Actually, Godwin's Law merely states that as an Internet discussion proceeds, the odds of one party being compared to Nazis approaches unity. That doesn't necessarily mean the comparison is incorrect (what else would you compare, say, the KKK to?), nor does it mean (as so many seem to think) that the conversation is over; it just means somebody's going to call somebody a Nazi.

It doesn't mean the comparison is incorrect, but you do lose the debate.

If the references are relevant to what is being discussed, there should be no problem

Actually, Stalin also targeted Jews, just not as systematically as Hitler did.

Unless somebody is actually stating things that are either directly lifted from Nazism or are analogous to Nazism then calling them a Nazi is pointless and immature. And if one does use that label they must be damn sure they are correct in doing so. Then again the same could be said for any label one chooses to brand another

Actually there is an exception to Godwin's Law. There are times when a Nazi comparison is a legitimate one.

Had Stalin lived another year there would have been a super program. Not as bad as the holocaust, but worse than the German Kyrstalnacht. The next big program would have flowed from the "Jewish Doctor's Plot".

For those of you who are not familiar with the fact anti-semitism was a cottage industry in Russia both before and after the Revolution. The infamous "Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion" was written and promulgated (first) in Russia. Eventually it became the second biggest seller in the Muslim countries second only to th Q'ran.

I agree with this. You can't really talk about WW2 without mentionning it. =/

...but all too often its overused. People are often too juvenile to treat it with the respect it deserves.
