Some Christians bring up how the word "Easter" sounds like the word "Aster", and therefore it must be a celebration of a pagan deity that the Canaanites and Philistines used to worship, astoreth, on the basis of the semblance of words. However even if this were remotely valid, I know of no Christian who celebrates Easter that seriously gives a hoot about some random idol of ancient Mesopotamia. As God told Samuel, man looks at the outward appearance but He looks at the heart. The intent of Christians who celebrate Easter is not to celebrate a pagan deity but to celebrate, as per the Christian interpretation of Isaiah 53 and Christ statement of "destroy this temple and I will rebuild it in three days", the final sacrifice upon the tree in which the suffering servant took the curse of Adam's kind upon Himself for anyone who would accept Him as their atonement and in celebration of Christ's defeat of death.

Intent is the farthest thing from being irrelevant.

Can someone please tell me what the hell eggs have to do with rabbits, and furthermore, what rabbits and eggs have to do with Jesus becoming some kind of new age-zombie?

Was going to object to the 'filthy' part...but then most of our holidays are filthy.

But if you care to say "filthy pagan holiday", Labor day is also a "filthy pagan holiday" since it is non-Biblical it is pagan, the BBQ grills often get quite filthy (as well as with how many people use too much lighter fluid, the BBQs often look like altars for burnt sacrifices and the food often tends to taste like burnt sacrifices) and Labor day is a holiday, so thus Labor day fits the category of "filthy pagan holiday" just as much.

Anyhow, as per the word Easter/Oster and what it refers to: http://creation.com/easter-and-good-fri ... nd-answers

Only if you tell me what an invisible red fat guy who rides a sleigh powered by reindeer that warp the fabric of space-time has to do with the birth of Christ. Aside from a heavily contorted reference to a guy who threw some silver coins into a fireplace of a poor family once, as far as I'm concerned it's primarily marketing to get children to solipsistically pester their parents for junk they don't need.

I actually think I was wrong in saying "pagan". I believe "heathen" would have been more accurate.

Correct. Neither Easter nor Christmas have anything whatsoever to do with anything Scriptural. And as to the matter of intent, my mother used to say, "Well, that is not what those things mean to me!" However, nothing in Scripture seems to indicate "God" being in any way interested in what anything means to any man. Either He is sovereign and decides all matters or not.

So let's say a person does work on Shabbat, would you be willing to argue that they should be put to death?

I am a Christian, and therefore I do not celebrate Easter or Christmas, since both of them are pagan festivals.

The so-called "church" likes to pretend that they're Christian by sticking labels on them and saying "let's pretend this one is about the birth of Christ and this one is about his resurrection."

Where in the bible did Jesus ever command us to celebrate either his birth or his resurrection as festivals? He didn't. If he had, he would have been certain to tell us the dates.

The only thing I recall Jesus telling us was to remember the last supper, and even THAT has been twisted and turned into some sort of religious rite by the so-called church. He never said "call this a rite and give it a name and all line up in a queue and do it on certain days." All he did was break some bread when sitting at a table, and said, "when ye do this, remember me."

There is NO justification in the New Testament for Christians to celebrate or observe heathen festivals. Some attempt to justify doing so, by quoting verses that say things like: "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days" and trying to imply that these verses mean that Christians are not to be judged by fellow Christians if they choose to observe heathen festivals.

In fact, closer examination and logical reasoning will both reveal their true context: those verses are far more likely to be directed at Jewish converts to Christianity who are unwilling to let go of their traditions, and wish to carry on observing Jewish festivals despite being dead to the law under the new covenant.

For them to do so is unlikely to be offensive to God, as things like the feast of the tabernacles or the passover are days that were established by him in the first place. They are HIS days. Part of the old covenant rather than the new, but still days ordained by God for his people. But for a Christian to observe heathen fesitvals is likely to make God very angry indeed. Paul did not even address the subject, as it probably never even crossed his mind that any of us would be doing it.

I have no wish to bring God's wrath upon me by observing feast days of some goddess of fertility or some sort of winter solstice celebrated by pagans. I am a Christian. The rest of you can do what you want.

You are going completely off-topic there unless you are meaning to argue Sun-Worship Day is now the Sabbath.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! You were doing fine until then. Yah's Festivals are His, not "Jewish", and Pasach is now just a few days away (18th, I believe).
