Hm... well, you could always blast Christian rock in answer, or something.

(Romans 12:17, 18) Return evil for evil to no one. ... If possible, as far as it depends upon YOU, be peaceable with all men.

Noise cancelling headphones. If you can read while hearing [my wife cannot productively] feed in your own choice edifying sound. Or use them and an audio Bible.

You cannot make the world and its noise go away, it is not always productive to join in, but you can minimize the amplitude.

Maybe you should read it yourself before you make fun of others for reading the bible. I try to read the bible every day and I don't see why people should make fun of me or kxmode or anybody else for reading it.

I am an Atheist and try to read as many religious texts and books as possible. You might not like what I am doing it for, but there have been numerous times I stopped a conversation cold because I knew the other person's opinion on a lot of different topics. You have to make LOGICAL arguments after all.

If you have the bible on CD or MP3 you could listen to it with headphones.

I suggest you ask them if they could tone the sound down, after 22:00h it's an acceptable question atleast.

Headphones or hearing protection used in construction might help too :)

Just be blunt honest with him, tell him that his metal is opening the gates of hell and that he wouldn't like that to happen.

Yeah, well - when I tried that on a neighbour in London I got no useful result. Some people actually prefer to be inconsiderate.

Ask once, say I, and get out the headphones.

That is nonsense. You get a stone slingshot and hurl it through your neighbor's house, striking him in the forehead and killing him instantly. Then you break into his house and rip off his foreskin, because he is just some guy standing between you and your time with God. You have to read the Bible more; I think you missed that extremely logical point I made.

Seriously... you are trying to argue that the PPR and WP are not anti-Christian and then you make fun on a thread where someone mentions the Bible. *Not* Anti-Christian... yeah right... You pigeon-hole and stereotype Christians just as much or *more* that they do atheist.

Headphones are good. I usually listen to chill Celtic music or piano music to help me concentrate because they either don't have words or don't have ones you can recognize so I won't be distracted by them. It also depends on what part of the Bible you are trying to read. Romans and Hebrews are going to be difficult no matter what. On the other hand, James is rather straightforward.
