- Every action you take is based on previous circumstance.
- All previous circumstances are the same, leading back to an unbroken chain of events at the universe's creation
- Since nothing you do is done under only your control, no action you take is fully "your" action but simply another wholly predicable response to past circumstance
- Everything is caused, nothing just happens

- All actions and choices you make are part of this chain of events, hence there can only be one possible universe, we could not be anything other then this.
- You have a choice, but ultimately the choice you choose was always going to be that one
- You are wholly influenced by everything that precedes you, you take action based on your biology and environment (among other things).
- You do not truly make choices, you only act upon previous actions.

There is no free will 8O

Let's celebrate 8)

How about putting to death new discussion threads on free will?

This topic has already been beaten to death.

Everything's been discussed before. But we all have our own personal new experiences and ideas, and we should be allowed to share them. I'd suggest that you shouldn't open these threads if you don't want to read them.

Are you saying you want to take away posters free will?

Was Manny entirely incapable of exercising his free will and not opening the thread? He was destined to do it, and post his displeasure about it?

Seems like it. Now I can't help reading the replies here.

Anyway, my last reply was just me expressing my personal position towards opening more than one thread for the exact same topic on the same page. People are free to post what the want.

Whether that was done out of free will or not is another story.

Ah, I see. I didn't see that thread.

I don't want to go dig up an older thread with 5 pages and probably a lot of baggage and draaaama, can you really blame me?

Fresh start, fresh drama.

Fair enough.

Just to stay on topic, yes, I agree with your conclusion.

It's not logical for free will to exist.

the inevitability of all processes is thwarted at the juncture of equilibrium.
the process of thought and decision would not be able to operate at a high enough resolution to see a course of least resistance within an equilibrium of alternatives.

the only way out of a state of complete equilibrium is through quantum surprises that mix up the universe in unexpected ways.

i believe that the reason i choose one of 2 equally valuable paths to afford my energy to is not due to the laws of 3 dimensional physics.

the deal breaker of equilibrium is quantum uncertainty.
the mind i believe is rendered infinitely unpredictable by "universally uncertain principles" of procedure.

Take what you want and pay for it, says God.

Let that suffice.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

Or in the parlance of our times, I'd have to be stupid to worry about that.

Free will may not exist but the process is so complex and largely subconscious that the illusion of free will is satisfactory I suppose...

So few, so few -

again, Freedom of Will is not Freedom of Action, the Power of Prayer is not Control of the Outcome.

i have no idea what that means. so few what? i act only as i will, and i am free (unbound by the physical universe) to will what i shall. i can not fathom what "the power of prayer" means.
