I grew up in the '50s and '60s, and I have yet to see a day -- I yet await a day -- when this song no longer fits ...

I became conscious in the early 50s. Somewhere in the late 50s or early 60s I read a book, Bad timing. It had me lying on my bed on a rainy 4th of July evening [what better day for a nuclear attack?] hearing distant percssion through the drizzle and KNOWING it was all going to end.

How long? But tarrying does not mean no show.

I no longer sing this myself, but I did used to enjoy it ...

Quote:
Have you had Jesus people knockin' on your door
Sayin' things you've never heard before
Well don't ya get uptight
Things will be all right
Cause it won't be long
An' they'll be gone

Sayin' things you just don't want to hear
Singin' songs keep ringin' in your ear
Well don't be gettin' mad
An' don't be feelin' bad
Cause it won't be long
An' we'll be gone

Chorus:
It's been comin' for a long long time
Gets a little closer everyday
An' when it finally happens
Gonna blow their mind
When all us Jesus people fly away

I guess the rest is up to you
Won'tcha tell me now
Whatcha gonna do
You can come along
You can sing this song
Cause it won't be long
It won't be long, it won't be long
An' we'll be gone

(words and music by Barry McGuire (in album "To The Bride"))

You seem quite 'adam'ant about that.
