I started reading a history of Boy's Town. And then the thought came to be out of the blue:

What unspeakable things did Father Flannigan do to the boys he took in?

I shudder to think of the matter in detail.

Instead of living by stereotypical assumptions, why not stop shuddering and find out? With so long a history that even I knew about somebody must have put down some memoirs.

Perversion is exactly that - a poisoned version of something good. Meaning that sometimes the good is really there.

In Fr. Flannigan's case, there's no evidence to the contrary. Quite the opposite: http://www.irishcentral.com/news/Boys-T ... 56519.html

My greatgrandfather - fatherless and impoverished boy growing up end of the 19th century in pretty bad conditions - entered the Episcopal priesthood largely because of the influence and example of a celibate High Church priest in his town, who was known for collecting and workibng woth boys and saw severalo of them enter the Episcopal and Catholic priesthood.

The priest died loved and respected, and if he ever did anything shudderable my notioriously slightly womanizing greatgrandfather does not seem to have been affected.

If you saw TODAY what was written about the priest as sincere praise, ruveyn would start to shudder.

The boy on the right looks quite a lot like Father Flannigan himself. :chin:

I was thinking he looked like Bing Crosby, actually. Or maybe I'm thinking of Gregory Peck. In any case, there's clearly an army of Irish clones out there.

Is this sarcasm or something???

If not then WFT would make you think for a second that Fr. Flanagan was a perv?
