http://www.businessinsider.com/2008/7/r ... rough-2016

This was from a couple of years ago, but in 2008 he received a $100 million signing bonus, plus $38 million per year through 2016, for a total deal worth $400 million.

Is this heap of rubbish worth the money?

On the one hand, one might argue that Clear Channel Communications is willing to pay him $400 million for 8 years of ranting and raving, so he must be worth $400 million.

On the other hand, there are considerable costs to society associated with this rabble-rouser's inane ramblings, disturbances to the peace, misinformation and distortion, that that $400 million could have been better spent on something like orphanages, or perhaps to provide treatment to molested children in the Dominican Republic.

Or, maybe Clear Channel Communications could have hired some intelligent, level-headed and perspicacious news-analysts with the money.

Vote and discuss amongst yourselves.

Your proposal paves the way for4 censorship, and it's typically liberal protesters that riot.

He's an entertainer. His job is to sell sleep number beds, or whatever the current sponsor is flogging. He seems to be doing a good job at that.

Definitely overpaid
JB- why does that pave the way for censorship? The guy is getting paid millions of dollars for nothing, essentially. Maybe if there was a salary cap for these pundits, there would be people with actual interest, and not just people looking to get rich by spewing vitriolic hot air, conservative or liberal. I have the same problem with pro athlete salaries. Its a completely unreasonable and undeserved amount of money for what many others do for pennies or for absolutely nothing (voluntarily)

He's paid exactly what his employer thinks he's worth, which in this case happens to be quite a bit. I'd be curious to know how much revenue he actually generates, but as he's employed in the private sector it's really none of my business.

No I'm serious - limbaugh attracts a broad spectrum of consumers who buy things like emu oil, vacuum cleaners, and term life insurance.

beck is failing because all he can sell is gold and survival seeds.

same intro inuyasha should have used a dash instead of the comma.

If someone says that they hypothetically should use the money for other things, then that's just plain old mental masturbtion and they have a right to do that as much as they want. However if they push for seizing Limbaugh's salary and the corporate financing for his show to silence his views, then that is censorship. And claiming that Limbaugh's audience is responsible for civil unrest and that his salary should be used to compensate for that is an outright lie. It's typically protesters for left wing causes that end up getting tear gassed for their behavior. Most right wing protesters need to stay civil if for no other reason than to not disrupt the job they have (unless they have been the victim of Obama and Frank's economic policies) so they don't interrupt their family lives and ability to pay the bills.

the police overaction is proof of the crimes of protesters?
I have been at peaceful protests that have been gased.

the police just tend to agree with fascist demonstrations.

Yep. A few years back the Quebec police were busted putting undercover people in the protests to throw rocks at the riot police in an attempt to instigate violence. This kind of thing is pretty common. Right wingers really enjoy intimidation and violence, and then claiming they're 'cracking down'.
@JB: I don't suggest taking anyone's earnings for their viewpoints, that would be wrong. I simply think pro athletes, pundits and most other non-producing careers don't deserve hundreds of millions of dollars for doing nothing. They are essentially parasites

He's worth what his employer pays him. I'd venture to say he probably makes Clear Channel Communications more money than they pay him since they're in the business of making money. This isn't UNICEF.

Isn't Rush a partial owner of the station that he works at?
