The short answer is "yes" I would ban them.

Though Ive often dreamt of setting up a site with a subforum called "the cage" for all of the ranters. All of the angry people with axes to grind could go there and vent and battle it out with each other. That would include the overtly racist and other damaged individuals who hate whatever (other creeds, genders, sexual orientations, etc) to siphon off the vitriol.

Yes, if their vileness prompted them to violate TOS.

But racists who could debate calmly and rationally would be welcome. I would love to have James Watson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_D._Watson on my website, or the Bell Curve authors. There would be some awsome debates and I think they could be counted on to keep it more or less civil.

I'm not going to ban somebody because I strongly- even vehemently- disagree with them. Voltaire is my hero.

If they broke TOS then yes without a shadow of a doubt.

People have the right to have their views. And I have the right to tell them to get lost.

Yeah if they expressed truly racist views, especially to another member, they would be gone.

No. Why would I want to do that? I don't have a problem with racism.

I did at one point have my own forum. No, I did not ban someone for being racist. They were banned only if they broke the rules.

There is no reason to ban someone for ignorance. Else were we all excluded.

There is no reason to ban someone for racism. Pretty much everybody [I do not like talking absolute universals] is overtly or covertly slanted against SOME Green Monkey. Being for or again a particular "race" is neither better nor worse than ostracizing someone who says "tomahto" - before you tell me nobody does, that's my granny that was]. Banning racists is the act of a racist.

Vile? I would very likely ban somebody for being vile, but you gotta let ME set the definition - I'm not banning the ones AG thinks are vile.

B..b..but ... Voltaire was himself a "racist".

You can see some of the things he wrote here, such as (cover your eyes, dionysian!) "[Jews] are, all of them, born with raging fanaticism in their hearts, just as the Bretons and the Germans are born with blond hair. I would not be in the least bit surprised if these people would not some day become deadly to the human race." and "The race of the Negroes is a species of men different from ours … They are not able of a great attention, they combine little and do not appear made nor for the advantages, nor for the abuses of our philosophy."

What can one say? I guess he was a man of his time.

if they were there just to emote racist venom or have a one-sided racist monolog, then yes.

Otherwise, no.

No, however let's just say I'd be a bit lax when it came to moderating insults directed *at* racists.
