There's a future that I don't want.

Awesome.
It might sound gross but when you think of eating a bloody, puss filled hunk of flesh which usually is tainted by feces anyway then it's all just protein.
This way is much more humane.

Your tap water used to contain feces. It was filtered, processed and then you boiled it to make yourself a cup of coffee or tea if you are British. Or perhaps you used it for soup?

What if I boiled the water, condensed, and collected it prior to using it?

You could just stay a carnivore and eat your meat. It will probably get more expensive with time. But I don't plan to stop to eat meat just for that.

The word in the dictionary for that is overkill.

But it would have still have touched feces in the past. Mater transforms, unless America's water system really sucks, the process that happens between sewage and tap water got rid of all the health hazards so condensing all over again is probably unnecessary.

And what if it is sold to restaurants that you eat at and not labeled as recycled human crap on the menu?

You could research before going to restaurants. Probably all of society would make it very hard for restaurants to pull that stunt.

Water processing is one of the things that we do best here, especially compared to the nations south of us who have too many power hungry politicians and corrupt police to bother worrying about such matters as clean water.

So, be happy and enjoy your tap water, just boil it before use.

My point is that the concept of tap water and effectively recycling water that once contained feces and toxic things and ... pieces of rats, and whatever disgusting thing you can think off probably caused the same repulsion to people when they were first implementing tap water back in Victorian world. At this moment, I guess everyone is repulsed at this Japanese idea, but I guess that in 20 years IF it proves to be effective, safe, taste well and cost lower the stigma will fade away and in 50 years it will become a "normal" concept just like tap water.

This reminds me of a story where they showed people in Haiti eating cakes made of dirt (I do not believe it was clay at all). I would rather have that than the meat substitute that only someone deranged and/or high would think of.

Not to the same degree, no. There are going to always be corrupt politicians, police, judges, you name it, everywhere, just some places more than others and affecting the people they have been placed in charge of by varying degrees. Relatively clean water, trash collection, having a majority of police that don't pull you over asking for bribes, those are things that many Americans tend to take for granted.

This reminds me of a scene from a rather bad sci-fi movie where a vending machine would advertise: "Eat recycled food. It's good for the environment and OK for you."

I'm guessing it also sold packets of "Already Chewed Gum" too, but what was the name of that movie?
