The Principality of Byzantia

One of my interests has been history and another politics, and those are the motivations behind The Principality of Byzantia. Here is a short introduction:
Quote:
On May 29, 1453, the city of Constantinople, the great city and last outpost of the Byzantine Empire, fell to Mehmed II, Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. Constantinople was initially not considered worth the effort of conquest, but with the advent of cannons, the walls - which had been impenetrable except by the Fourth Crusade for over 1000 years - no longer offered adequate protection from the Ottomans.
But the Byzantine Empire would be reborn, in a new and different way. On October 31, 2005, an amateur historian of the Byzantine Empire known here by his adopted "Greek" name Matthias Areios, founded the Principality of Byzantia and proclaimed himself Prince Matthias I of House Areios. Byzantia is the most realistic online simulation of the Byzantine Empire, in terms of culture and political structure. By staying faithful to this legendary civilization's history and at the same time giving the simulation a modern context, Byzantia exists as an educational, entertaining and aesthetically-tuned online community.

Except for the fact that it is at this point only online-based, it is a fully functional country in which you and all of your friends can participate. All you have to do is become a citizen, and to do so send an e-mail to the address on the immigration page of Byzantia's website, which may be found at http://byzantia.spinther.com . Be sure to peruse the website to learn more about our small country's government and culture. If you want, you can also register an account on the forum, where our government and political officials conduct their business.
