I think I already used that as a thread head - so sue me.

I have recently received some VERY nasty feedback ["robot pedant", anybody?] for my repeated point that reducing polarization and avoiding rabblerousing slogans and abuse, with calm reasoned discussion of clear statements of positions and evidence would improve things.

Those who say they want a kinder, fairer, more peaceable world get vey angry when I - and others - say that.

Something Herself brought up today started my research ferret down a hole. I have not found the rabbit yet, but I did find this, which seems very relevant:

--------------

We already know that stress affects the male by reducing the probability of empathy - http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 135056.htm - moving the male human, shall we say, further toward the Pan troglodytes modus operandi and the female toward Pan paniscus.

"A stressed male looking at angry faces" gets reduced empathy.

Put that together with this one, which links rage and diminished language processing.

Rabblerousing.
Get them angry
Block awareness of the Other's humanity
Block communication.

Let them into the pit and place your bets.

Yes, I THINK calm discussion is important. I think the Aspie might need to be more consciuous of that than most.

Reduced polarization is a good goal to have but some people cling to their ideology as though it gave birth to them.

Oh, so true.

And some people cling to their rage as essential to their identity. Especially the Embattled Socialized - I have had a lot of unhappy dealings with the,

One advantage [among many disadvantages] to having the Doubting Thomas skepticism is you are constantly aware NOBODY has it right.

Not even the old Perfesser.

They are well after my time, and rather before Number 1 Son's - and outside his genre range.

But the advantage of having an Inner Group member aiming at the Industria Musicala and constructing lyrics for and with him is after a while you can recognize probable lyric scraps.
