Seriously folks, WHY?

I'm not saying that it shouldn't be reported, but here in the US any time something happens there it makes it to the top of the headlines. Is the same true in Europe and ANZAC? Honestly, I don't see why the left and right wings care so damn much. To to pressure Israel to figure out how to be economically self-sufficient so they can take care of their OWN defense and people can criticize them all they want without the right slapping with the "anti-semitic" label since the US will no longer have to foot the bill for their military spending.

It is a 3 billion dollar investment that is paying dividends. It is essentially R&D funding, and it should be labeled as such. Silicon valley is dependent on every breakthrough to have come from the holy land.

Does Israel need 3 billion dollars? It's a tenth of a percentage of their overall economy. So no, they are not dependent on our aid. But if you appreciate Israel's humanitarian efforts, if you appreciate their breakthrough's in medicine, technology, all of which goes to power, innovate the world and our western economies, their model of social equality, them being a model for all governments in the region to aspire to, and don't US carriers patrolling the mediterranean, then 3 billion is a bang for the buck.

The problem isn't the 3 billion. We couldn't get half a billion dollars worth of contribution out of France or Germany if we sent 3 billion dollars in their direction in the form of aid. The problem is that everyone who believes in Israel, their humanitarian efforts around the world, their contributions to science and culture, why isn't their western government sending some kind of "aid" towards this tiny country, as both a thank you, and a commendation that may you continue to give to humanity in the coming years as you have in the past 64 years.

You're arguing as to why the US should support Israel, rather than explaining why the media is so obsessed with the Arab-Israeli conflict. I see no evidence that Israel is involved in global humanitarian efforts. A country like that must use its resources to defend itself. Also, WHERE did you come up with the idea that silicon valley depends on scientific innovation in Israel???

Well I was explaining that the Right's lament of Israel's haters being anti-semitic is legitimate, and that we get back our investment's worth as Israel is able to hold its own in that part of the world.

The reason the world is preoccupied with the left is because the world's editorials are run by the Left. They divide good and evil between the weak and the strong, the poor and the rich, and the have and the have nots. Evil is a function of economics. That is why the world is preoccupied with Israel. They control much of the media, and thus can frame what we think is important. Look at all the left wingers on here who are preoccupied with the issue of protesting Israel's right to exist.

Israel has the highest per capital rate of patent production of any nation on Earth. The Israelis are smart on balance. Partly because the have to be in order to survive. Partly because most of them are Jews (there are Christians, Druse and Muslim Israeli citizens). Israel is the main test bed for U.S. designed tactical weapons. So the Israelis can and do earn their keep. They keep the point of our spear very sharp indeed.

Think about it. Where are we going to get help like this? In the United States 60 percent of the population believes in angels and miracles and 60 believe the Earth is less than 10,000 years old. With a population as dumb as ours, how can we possible design the highest technology 21 st century weapons without help from elsewhere?

And, it would be far more expensive to maintain a heavier presence in the region since they gave back Sinai.

Israel really doesn't need 3 billion of US taxpayer dollars. But it is a great investment considering that our tech companies, and those in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and a whole host of other industries are the primaries beneficiaries of all the academic, medical, technological, and cultural revolutions taking place in the holy land, it is the greatest bang for the buck one could envision and a small price to pay to power our 13 trillion dollar economy.

We don't have to fund the Israeli's for peace... they'll remain lovers of peace with or without US aid, but its the only R&D investment in the world where you are assured a full Jewish workforce littered with nobel prize winners and numerous patent carriers, and your economy gets back 10 fold its investment. Those who bless the Jews will be blessed. Islam at one point knew this, but to their great demise, have forgotten that.

Bingo! Every nation that has made it miserable for Jews ends up making it miserable for everyone in their nation.

The conditions under which Jews flourish are essentially the conditions under which mankind flourishes.

yes, and its embarrassing that some think it is a jewish problem. unethical despots or unethical communities rarely stop with the Jews. They're always the first and easiest target, but there is always an accompanied ethnic cleansing. The Christians in Europe didn't stop with the Jews, neither did Hitler, or Muslims today. This is never just a jewish problem, it just so happens that we're always the first in a long line of other genocidal acts that will follow if no one stands up for us.
