Okay, since it's well-known that I like looking at old threads, I thought I'd share an interesting obsevation.

The OP in that thread typed out this line:

I remember in 2008 when progressives were going for Obama instead of Slick Hillie because he didn't have the same "polarizing effect". Well, looks like that was a crappy reason, as it's only taken a year or so for rightwingers to spread nearly identical smears about Obama as they did about Slick Hillie (instead of gender-baiting, however, it appears that the rancid Right is race baiting Obama).

And, for the record, I don't think Slick Hillie would be any better than Obama (some progressives are starting to delude themselves and think that Obama's capitulation is a personal problem, rather than a structural issue with the corporatized Democratic Party).

Yes, well, it's pretty much a Pavlovian response. Conservatives had similar rhetoric for President Bill Clinton. They just automatically apply labels like socialist and "tax-and-spend liberal" to all Democrats by default.

I would say it is in fact both - but the party problems take precedence, since BO's dysfunctionality would never have gotten near the podium under a different set party attitudes.
