Seriously, you have got to be kidding me.....I had to watch a documentary for Sociology class and yeah it's horrible. I mean I knew it was bad.....but I did not know they would throw someone in need of medical care out in the street if they cannot pay the bill but yeah I guess that happens. Oh also good luck getting medical insurance if you have AS or a number of other mental or physical conditions, they don't want to cover anyone they might actually have to pay for. lol.......not that I could afford medical insurance anyways.

I am just a little worried about the fact that I will pretty much be left to die if I suffer any sort of serious injuries or anything. Expendable lower class I guess.

Be prepared to endure the wrath of the heartless conservative elements in WP, for having the nerve of being poor and wanting help.
Personally, I think you're one hundred percent right. How can a country like ours that claims to have Christian values do this to people in need? Crimony, poorer counties than ours provide healthcare for their citizens.

Say for example one was to accept your reality... it is idiocy to then build upon this broken dysfunctional system. that is what the democrats with their leftist cheerleaders rooting them on did, and this is considered moral?

It hurts you that 45 million people do not have health insurance(some of which are young like myself and simply don't care), but it doesn't seem to bother you one iota the hundreds of millions more in the lower and middle class who can afford expensive health care, and haven't seen their wages rise in a decade because of the increasing percentage of their checks that go to pay for this expensive system. The overwhelming majority of which struggle with mortgages, bills to pay, families to raise, kids to put through college, and many of the other things that come with living in the middle and lower classes, all the while burdened by the costs of health care. It is one of the largest roadblocks to upward mobility, and for the lower class moving into the middle class.

You are compassionate for the minorities, the 45 million, or 15% of America, we are compassionate for the majority, or 255 million, or 85%, and feel that the 15% that you fight for would be better off under our system wherein fighting costs will make health care affordable to everyone and the issues you bring up rendered a non-issue. You are not more moral or compassionate then the side you detest... at the end of the day, someone will suffer anyways, and we stand with 255 million people who go through similar issues as those you claim to defend but we do not go about complaining how much this country sucks, and how institutionally evil you are for not caring about the other 255 million people in this nation.

Oh that poor 85%, and how those evil poor people are holding down their wages - like poor people head up businesses. If you really want to hold someone responsible for stagnant wages, look to the captains of industry, and their payed for politicians who not only keep pay low, but also misdirect class hatred at the most vulnerable.

watching 1 propaganda film and then making a decision is not really informed.

Reality is not propaganda. Those who cannot afford care and those who are denied coverage literally die because of it. This happens every single day.

It's actually a lot worse than most people realize financially as well. Most people are aware that the majority of bankruptcies in the U.S. are due to medical expenses, but what they don't realize is that many of those people had insurance. Between the caps, the copays, claim denials, and the deductibles, one serious illness or injury can still cost an insured family tens of thousands of dollars, even more.

It is bad. Really, really bad.

You mean those rich bankers at Goldman Sachs and other banks who contributed four times as much to Obama as to McCain? Yes, I'd agree that they contributed to the problematic class warfare that Obama advocates, and also to that travesty of a health care system he pushed and passed.

Want a good health care system? Get the federal government out of it and get your state to pass reasonable rules - or move to such a state. Prior to Obamacare, my state prohibited refusal of people for medical conditions provided they had maintained continuous insurance. It's only in disfunctional places like California that you could be kicked off an existing plan because of conditions you developed under that plan.

Like Vermont, which currently has the best healthcare in the country as a direct result from it's move towards a single-payer system.

http://statehealthstats.americashealthr ... US/VT/2010

Take a look at the current states of the healthcare systems of the states fighting Obamacare. Oklahoma, Louisiana, West Virginia, etc. They have the crappiest care in the nation.

I'm not saying I don't have issues with Obamacare - I do. However, would we be wise to follow advice from states who's systems are in shambles, or might it be better to follow the leads of the states who are managing to get some things right? There has never been any evidence of success shown by a move towards full privatization, assuming of course that the goal is quality care for all.

Yeah, it's rough for the uninsured. But by the sound of your situation you'll get either Medicaid or heavily subsidized health insurance in 2014.

But until then you are SOL.

I'm confused. My best friend got sick and lost his job & insurance. His wife has no insurance. He's completely broke. Turns out he has advanced non-hodgkin's lymphoma cancer. He's been fighting it for 2 years now.

According to you healthcare doomsayers, he will be denied care and thrown to the streets.

But he has NEVER been denied treatment. He has gone through several rounds of chemo. He has had a bone marrow transplant that hospitalized him for months. He has been to the Rochester Mayo Clinic. He is receiving a ton of medications. He has been hospitalized multiple times for long periods. He sees doctors practically daily.

You guys should probably stop watching Michael Moore films.

And, if I may ask, who is funding this care? Is he on Medicaid? Are there grants or large charitable contributions?

It's nice to hear your friend is getting the care he deserves, but it's not free. My own personal experiences have been quite the opposite (claim denials, pre-existing coverage denial, total lack of preventative services, etc.). I had a friend who who lost it all to pay for a transplant (the hospital was able to seize her assets and take her house to pay for her care). The transplant would not have been necessary had she gotten proper preventative care, which is usually what's missing in the healthcare debates.

It's not that people walk into the ER in life-threatening situations and get turned away (although it has been known to happen). It's that life-threatening illness can be avoided altogether with proper preventative care. There are so many conditions that can be easily contained or even cured, but because people can't afford the treatments, or even the right diagnoses, their conditions go to the point of emergency. People die every day from diabetes, high blood pressure, stage 4 cancer, etc. unnecessarily.

The reality of health care is that it's not an unlimited resource, all healthcare is is the work of a doctor, a chemist, a biologist. Many people don't understand why health care costs are so high in this country, it didn't used to be like this, before medicare was introduced. The reason is people are able to bid up costs with money that isn't theirs and so there is no limit to the price increases. All socialism does is increase the level of inflation in the industry - increasing the burdon on society.

So we might complain that the cost of an MRI is too expensive, but few people stop and appreciate the MRI, it's a marvel of technology, people don't appreciate the fact that if they had come down with some illness just 10 or 15 years prior that machine wouldn't have even been there for them to complain about. profit necessitated it into existence - it is profit which nearly all advances in the medical profession has come. Without profit there is no progress. That is the disturbing truth.

Yeah, but in Japan, that MRI costs about $700.

Part of that is the fact that they don't insist on having the world's absolute best MRI machine. They have a Good MRI machine. The Best MRI machine is maybe 0.5% better.

And again, I never hear my canadian friends complain about socialized healthcare.

Indeed.

I bolded the blatant myths. The US system continually ranks below other nations with socialized care with regards to, quality of care, access to care, and cost per capita (as well as cost per GDP). On average, we pay 2-3 times what they do. Profits don't lead to progress here, they lead to greed. They lead to a system that functions by reducing claim payouts and increasing revenue in order to increase those profits.
