There was a moment in time I was pondering the autistic condition in detail as it concerns thought.

I had the impression that autistic people are the "waking dreamers" of society. Not daydreamers, everyone does that from time to time, but a special class of thinkers. I know there's a Native American word for it, as well I think many old cultures have a word for it.

I'm very interested in feedback on this one. I want opinions and historical references, anything that might be of relevance.

You would have to expand and specify "waking dreamer"

It might explain scientists like Einstein, and writers like Lovecraft, who'd be lost in their own thoughts of mathematics or fiction. But not everyone with Asperger's is gifted with a scientific or artistic acumen.
