I have to say, at the tender age of 32 I have never in my life seen a time with as much uncertainty about the future as America in the early 2010s. We do we all come from? This is what is known. We are we all going is truly a mystery.........But I feel no anxiety at all.

Well, uncertainty seems rather optimistic at this point. My vision of the future is rather bleak. I guess you could say we're living in some rather "interesting" times tho.

Well, we did somehow make it through the Reagan years, after all.

We must not have been in the same country - looking back only the whole Viet Nam stretch - mostly Kennedy plus Johnson - stands out as anything but business as usual. Whatr was special about Reagan times where you were?

Whatever.

Personally, the fact that there is NOTHING I can do to adjust the course of the juggernaut combined with the fact that I am on the downhill slope of my probable life curve makes one a lot less inclined to get worked up

The time from just before the Civil War was even more uncertain. It was not clear that the Republic would survive intact.
