Id like to try something a little different. Ive found ive had a hard time labeling myself politically. I am thoroughly disgusted with both parties here in the US. Ive taken many political affiliation quizzes/tests online and come up with many different results. I am going to list most of my political viewpoints, including those based on my faith.

I would like the community to tell me what they think i am, on a scale of 1-20. 1 being extreme left, marxist, communist, etc. and 20 being extreme right-essentially facist, facist to the point that Moammar Quaddafi would look like a sane human being.

Now, my beliefs are mine, they are unchanging. I ask that nobody attack me for what i believe, or tell me im wrong for holding that belief. I simply want your opinion on where i fall on the political spectrum.

Abortion-- I believe that it is entirely wrong. The ONLY time abortion should even be considered is when the mother is in extreme danger of death, in which case it would become self defense. I am fiercely pro life.

Death Penalty-- I am against the death penalty because i think its too easy. I believe in repentance and conversion, and i believe that while Christ served divine justice for us before God, human justice must still be served by those who murder other human beings. I believe life inprisonment in a solitary confinement cell for 23 hours a day is a far greater punishment then simply putting the murderer to death.

Universal Healthcare-- I believe that healthcare is a RIGHT, not a privilege. I think that a healthy public is a working public, a working public spends money to keep the economy afloat. At my pay level, i cannot qualify for medicaid and purchasing the company insurance for 70 dollars a week and a 2500 dollar deductible would financially cripple me. This ties directly in with my next point:

Minimum Wage-- I believe that minimum wage should be a living wage. As it is in my state, a single man such as myself making a few cents over minimum wage is lucky to afford a room by the week. I cannot afford a vehicle, after bills are paid i have about 50 dollars a week for food.

Unions-- I believe that workers should be free to unite and ask their employers for better working and living conditions. Where i work is non-union. I work eight hour shifts without a break, im lucky to get away long enough to use the restroom. I am allowed to eat on the job, but only as long as my work performance does not suffer.

Taxes-- I believe everybody should be paying their fair share. Flat tax is not the way to go, it gives much more benefit to the rich. I believe that higher taxes on the rich are not to be used as a "punishment" but as payment for the privilege of doing business in this great country.

Second Amendment Gun Rights-- I can see both sides of this one, the Founding Fathers certainly could not have anticipated that we would have assault rifles. I believe that everyone should have the right to own a weapon not more powerful than a 9mm handgun or a shotgun. Those convicted of violent crimes should be barred from gun ownership.

Public Religious Displays, including "Day of Prayer" proclamations-- I do believe that public officials retain their right to freedom of speech while in office. I also believe that the Founding Fathers were Christians who believed in each individuals right to choose their faith. I believe this country has gone too far in removing all traces of religion from our government. Schools should practice a moment of silence before each day, as long as nobody is forced to pray or swear allegiance to a specific God. At graduation ceremonies, students who are speaking should have the right to mention God in their speeches, after all, they have freedom of speech too.

As for groups like american atheists and the ACLU demanding that crosses be removed from public property, I believe that tramples on the rights of whoever put them up. Certainly government officials are still citizens, therefore they have the right to free speech. The line must be drawn at violence though. Sharia (islamic) law is slowly creeping into this country. Sharia law is radically different from our Constitution, under sharia, a man can force sex on his wife, beat her, and do all kinds of terrible things to others. Sharia courts have no place in this country.

Homosexual Marriage-- I believe that the fundamental definition of marriage should be changed. I personally believe in one man one woman marriage, but i understand that not everyone else does. I think "marriage" should be a church-only ceremony. As for government authorization, i think all should fall under the banner of "civil union" which would provide legal protection/benefits. Churches that are open to homosexuality can hold marriage ceremonies for gay partners, but no church should be FORCED to conduct a ceremony they do not approve of.

This also covers caterers, bakeries, reception halls, photographers and so on. Nobody should be FORCED to serve a ceremony they do not approve of. I believe that freedom of speech can be excercised through refusal to compromise ones spiritual integrity.

Congressional Spending-- I do not have a credit card. If i run out of money before payday then oh well, sucks to be me. I object to congress constantly piling up debt that we will never be able to pay off. If i am FORCED to live within my means, then i think Uncle Sam should be able to do the same.

Consider this: If i spent exactly one dollar every second of every minute of every day, it would take me over 31,000 years to spend one trillion dollars, congress spends that much in three months.

Military-- With the exception of Israel, we need to stop protecting everyone elses interests and work on ourselves first. I say we must continue to be allied with Israel because, historically, every nation that has turned its back on Israel has been destroyed--for a reason.

So, all that said. What am i?

A human being.

I am a bit the same. I probably hold similar economic views. Socially we have similar opinions; though on some issues we would differ. I don't think many people actually fit the utter mold of whatever major parties are available.

When it comes time to vote. Work out where you clash with a particular party and compare it to what they stand for. Then choose which policy you value more. Hopefully, by the time you are done, you will have identified what is most important to you, politically.

You're probably just an independent or centrist. You're liberal on several issues, but then you're conservative on the federal debt and separation of church and state.

More or less a right-wing populist. Your social views (eg your stance on abortion, attitude toward crime, and religious focus) certainly put you on the conservative side. Your gay marriage stance seems centrist to me, valuing tradition while at the same time allowing for pragmatic changes. On economics you came out solidly left-wing (pro-union, pro-worker, etc). Overall I see a trend towards promoting a strong, active government that has a role to play in securing economic outcomes as well as promoting the national culture. I would label you as fascist if not for the pejorative connotations of that term.

As to voting, your best interests probably lie with the Democrats, because they match your economic views better (even though they are probably still to the right of you economically) and most of what the government does will relate to economic issues more than to the social/moral issues. Republican politicians at the federal level will do little or nothing to advance your pro-life views, so being a single-issue voter on abortion when doing so requires the sacrifice of your economic interests is self-defeating.

In my opinion, his views are too mixed to be decidedly left or right. For example, right-wing populists tend to oppose labor unions, and they'd have strong anti-immigrant or anti-minority views, which I don't really see in what thechadmaster has stated. I really see nothing indicative of fascism and see some views counter-indicative of fascism (e.g., support of labor unions and some support for gay marriage). His views on the military, which I've interpreted as cutting back on foreign excursions, is pretty much anti-fascist.

If I was to try to categorise you, I'd suggest you're of the Christian right, with several socialistic viewpoints. This is not uncommon with Christian political parties, many of whom are leftist economically.

Not always - some right-wing populist parties are very left-of-centre economically, especially in the Nordic countries.

What do you think of 'violent' films, pornography and free speech issues? What is your take on sexual affairs? Do you uphold the classical liberal tradition or do you tell people to cover up/stop doing what they enjoy?

European Christian Democrat Parties aren't the same as North American "Rightwing populists". In North America, at least, Rightwing Populism is populism directed against the redistrubtionist "bureaucracy', upon whom they view are "ruining the lives of REAL workers" (Rightwing Populists like to put private sector workers against public sector workers). Generally righwing populists have a smattering of socially conservative views, but on economic matters they view the state as evil and enriching evil unionists (since, in America, private sector unionization is at record lows, this generally means public sector workers) and minorities (there's a hidden racial element to a lot of rightwing populist rhetoric).

There's also generally an attempt among rightwing populists to put the more well to do, lower middle class/upper working class against the working poor and jobless (disportionately filled with minorities, but with substantial caucasians segments too).

Canadian Encyclopedia wrote:
Populism has an important past and contemporary presence in Canadian POLITICAL CULTURE and public life. As a multi-faceted and highly malleable political ideology, populism mixes elements of core political ideologies, like SOCIALISM, LIBERALISM and neo-CONSERVATISM, opposition to powerful elites in public life, and advocacy of more real power for "the people." This focus on "grass-roots" participation makes populism an important element of POLITICAL PROTEST movements.

All populisms explain the distribution of power and operation of basic social institutions in terms of a fundamental antagonism between "the people" and "power elites." Varieties of left-wing populism follow socialism, SOCIAL DEMOCRACY or reform liberalism in identifying large capitalist firms and mainstream political parties as the principal homes of power ELITES. They see "the people" as a natural coalition of wage workers, farmers, the poor, and the middle class. Varieties of right-wing populism typically follow conservatives in supporting minimal regulation of the market economy. For them, the power elite is some combination of state bureaucrats, interventionist politicians, "special interests" proposing more state intervention in social and economic life, and occasionally, financial interests. "The people" in this perspective are all citizens not represented by special interests.

Thank you all for your insights. One thing I forgot to mention is immigration. I think we need to put up a 100 foot high brick wall at the mexican border.

Violent films and porn: what you do in your house is your business, I don't want to hear about it in public.

In many ways I think clinton was more conservative than bush.

You're a statist. It's a combination of all the worst aspects of the extreme left and the extreme right.

If I was forced to put you on a left/right scale, though, you'd be extreme left.

Any more brilliant right-liberopianbot analysis you want to provide?

Honestly, how can somebody who actually lived when the extreme left had its activist hayday (1960s and early 1970s) have such an utter lack of perspective as to what "extreme left" is?

Would hippies have been the extreme left?
