You do mean killing, right? Are we talking practical, like self defense, or legal, like the death penalty? I can comment either way, but I'd hate to waste time if I'm not sure what exactly you're asking.
I am talking all socially approved or mandated killing. No need to talk about abortion, that is overtalked as it is. But everything else - legal death penalty, shooting intruders, putting grandpapa to sleep, "assisted suicide", unassisted suicide, suicide pacts, euthanizing the unfit and those with inadequate "quality of life", lotteries to reduce the population [frequent in sci fi], mandatory retirement from life, and whatever other category occurs.
I will say right away I do not have answers meself - aside from a strong sense of the value of human life even in an inhuman world, i have historically had problems with putting pets down, disposing of vermin, and eliminating plants.
Though I swill without thinking swat a mosquito.
