According to my wife ten pounds of potatoes are going for about $6.00. I do not expect inflation to be nearly as great as you imply.

I remember the good old days in the 90's when it was closer to $2 around here.
And then one year Alberta had a bumper crop, and canadian spuds were selling in the US for less than US potatoes, and it turned out that most of the growers in idaho and utah didn't have guaranteed contracts.
A lot of domestic potato growers went bankrupt that year.
Oh, and those low-rate mortgages almost all require a payment of a percentage point, which bumps the average
effective mortgage rate to 4.1%.
