The Obama campaign sent out an email today asking supporters to urge Congress to at least vote on the president’s jobs bill almost immediately after Democratic majority leader Harry Reid blocked a vote on the bill in the Senate.

On the Senate floor today, Republican leader Mitch McConnell asked for unanimous consent to proceed on voting on the bill. Reid, who has struggled to find enough votes for the bill in the Democratic caucus, objected to the motion and killed the opportunity for a vote.

About ten minutes later, Jim Messina, Obama’s 2012 campaign manager, emailed this message to supporters:

Quote:
President Obama is in Dallas today urging Americans who support the American Jobs Act to demand that Congress pass it already.

Though it's been nearly a month since he laid out this plan, House Republicans haven't acted to pass it. And House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is out there actually bragging that they won't even put the jobs package up for a vote -- ever.

It's not clear which part of the bill they now object to: building roads, hiring teachers, getting veterans back to work. They're willing to block the American Jobs Act -- and they think you won't do anything about it.

But here's something you can do: Find Republican members of Congress on Twitter, call them out, and demand they pass this bill.

So will the Obama campaign be asking its supporters to "call out" Harry Reid and "demand" he and Senate Democrats pass the bill?

Last I checked Harry Reid is the Senate Majority Leader whom is a Democrat, so the Republicans are responsible how exactly?!?!

I do not much care for Mitch McConnell but at least the GOP are doing what they where voted.

In for trying to create jobs I am leaning more towards the right wing as of late when it comes.

To getting the america people back to work Harry Reid must have a hidden agenda the.

Democrats care more about other things as of late then creating jobs which is what this country needs.

Obama's "Jobs Bill" isn't meant to be passed, it's just something for Obama to talk about so it sounds like he's doing something. Just more of the Washington dog and pony show.

it, like his using the dream act(which I support) to bait hispanic enthusiasm, won't be the last political stint for his reelection bid.

Harry Reid probably doesn't want his party to be severely punished in 2014. The Stimulus was almost a trillion dollars and we lost 9 million payroll jobs from the recession, and the amounts of jobs that the stimulus "Saved or Created" is between 1.5 to 3.5 million. This is another stimulus part 2 because most of the 1.6 million jobs that it intends to add by years end would be temporary unless it is again renewed, and that would be another trillion spent. 2 trillion dollars for 3 to 5 million jobs back is a heavy price. The effects of the last stimulus was barely felt this year. Reid will not take the hit so Obama can get reelected, and will only bring up this bill if he feels confident that it won't hurt the party in 2012 and 2014.

Hmmm, now, why would Reid do such a thing? Maybe he's evil, or maybe (as usual) both sides are just playing politics:

If he wants to pass the bill, it behooves him to find as many votes as he can in his own camp before the vote.

Delaying the republican's efforts to vote "nay" is a perfectly valid tactic.

That's why McConnell wants it put up for a vote and debated on, so it can be proven to be a joke. Then pick out the pieces that actually make sense (probably about 10% of the Obama's bill) and just pass that 10% without the 90% of rampant stupidity and kickbacks.

I'm going from Obama's past track record, if anyone knows where to find the current version of the bill so I can read it without taking a trip to DC, it would be greatly appreciated.

all you need to know is that it will likely add 1 million jobs by years end, but many of them(unless you are in k-12) are short term and won't have any long term affects unless renewed next year as well. The cost this year is just under 500 billion. When renewed it may be the same price tag... who knows, it depends on how well it works. So between 700 to a trillion dollars. It is stimulus II.

We lost 9 million jobs this recession. The first stimulus recovered 2 million, many were short term. So the equation seems simple to me, it is 1 million jobs saved or created for every 500 billion invested. The first stimulus neared a trillion dollars and brought back 2 million jobs, while this 500 billion dollar jobs bill is intended to bring back 1 million.

That averages out to $500,000 per job saved/created.

If this passes, it will be down to only 6 or 5 million jobs lost. To recover fully by government intervention alone, perhaps another 2 to 3 trillion, a crappy credit rating, and likely a world depression.

Ty,

Example: Establishes a new "government corporation" that is "providing loans" to businesses. In reality it is government picking winners and losers, or Freddie Mac 2.0.
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c ... :e128479:#

Example: Government is now going to regulate wireless internet for "safety reasons."
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c ... :e240693:#

Then the repealing oil subsidies is going to be hitting small oil companies not Exxon or BP whom don't get those tax breaks as well as something about airplanes.
Sec. 421. General aviation aircraft treated as 7-year property.
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c ... H:e12336:#

Why is that even in the bill?

I know about who the oil subsidies actually go to because I've been paying attention to the news, Exxon along with the other large companies got cut off from the subsidies decades ago.
