I don't care what side you're on, why, oh WHY do folks here ITF and americans in general seem to care so damn much about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? I'm sick to death of hearing about it as I am neither pro nor anti israel or palestine. The american media really puts way too much effort into covering every single thing that goes on there and those who aren't personally involved, why take sides? Discuss....

There are a variety of reasons, not the least of which are the populations of Jews and Palestinians living outside of the region for whom the establishment and security of the respective states is a matter of cultural security.

Further, the prospect of conflict should give pause to anyone in the West. A peaceful resolution of a Palestinian state, with borders that both Palestine and Israel can live with, is a key factor in ongoing stability in the Middle East.

And if peace and stability for a few hundred million people is not a worthwhile goal, in and of itself, then consider the economic impact.

Don't count on it. Every nation must look primarily to the interests of its own people.

True but not every nation faces the types of threats that Israel does every day from hostile Muslim countries.

I don't think the New Testament says anything about destroying any Masque, as Islam didn't even exist till the 7th century.
And as a mainline Protestant (Lutheran to be exact), I don't believe in the rapture.

Because Israel is the first line of defence of the West. It is liberal democracy in an area utterly hostile towards it.

If Israel falls so too will most of Europe. And then we'll all be done for.

Well, we'll just have to agree that your religious tradition has a different interpretation of Revelation than mine does. That is, Luther and Calvin personally had doubts if Revelation should even have been canonized. I can't speak for the Calvinistic (Reformed) faiths, but Lutheranism considers Revelation to be a very minor book about the persecution faced by the 1st century church, told in the picturesque apocalyptic style from Persia. We don't base any doctrines on Revelation.

The Book of Revelation contains the ravings of a madman. Luther and Calvin were quite correct in their misgivings. Most of the crazy end of the world scenarios have their origins in this wretched book.
