So if you don't wanna actually listen to the song, basically the lyrics are about this 16 year old who is suicidal and almost succeeds, and her mother prays to God and blames herself for her daughter's problems. Naturally as her daughter fails, her mother thanks God.
The song fast forwards to an 18 year old girl (it's actually about a different girl, but the song purposely makes that unclear) who has found new happiness in religion, and is then hit by a car. As she is dying in hospital, 'birds are singing in the summer sky', highlighting God's callousness.
The conclusion is that God has a 'sick sense of humour' and that the narrator excepts to hear him laughing when he dies. I think it's a very good point, as there are many real life examples of exactly the kind of things the song describes.
I think if the Christian God exists, he can't be that moral of a God.
