Honestly, Bill Maher is quite hit and miss - he acts like quite a moron 40% of the time (and typically presents pretty sloppy arguments when reasoning about novel issues).

The real difference between Bill Maher and Dannis Miller is that Dennis really is as smart as he thinks he is and Bill is not as smart as he thinks he is.

I agree with your description of Maher. He is inconsistent in almost all of views, he describes himself as a libertarian(a lot of folks latched on to that bandwagon) but supports SOPA/PIPA? He is the very definition of an elitist and 'limousine liberal'.

It's a shame Buddy Roemer was so thoroughly ignored this election season, even more so than Gary Johnson who at least got invited to a couple debates. The guy was a 4 term congressman and governor of Louisiana. Johnson and Roemer at least deserved to be in the discussion along with the other candidates.

Bill Mahr thinks that acting condescending is the same thing as making a valid argument.

I happen to agree with him most of the time, but I can see that a lot of people would want to smack him in the face if they could get away with it. Being a smart ass doesn't necessarily make one smart, but that's kind of his appeal. He makes you feel nice and smug when he talks down to idiots, but it's nice to see him get shot down every once in a while.

enjoyed some of his stuff but every time it boild down to pure politics he falls victim to the false dichotomies as much as everyone else.
he also has an annoying habbit of always wanting the last word and its embarrasing to watch.

I agree about Buddy Roemer. He was totally snubbed in the infamous 1991 gubernatorial election. They chose Edwin Edwards and David Duke over him! Edwin Edwards embezzled money and David Duke spends most of his free time in Iran.

Is that from Politically Incorrect or Real Time?

For that matter, what's the deal with HBO's fixation with titles starting with "Real"? (Real Time, Real Sports, Real Sex, etc.)

When I was in my early teens, I didn't like the guy, but didn't really know why. Now I know why I didn't, for reasons other people here have already mentioned. He doens't really bother me so much anymore, maybe because I don't watch the TV too much  but his Religulous was entertaining.

Wil Wheaton takes down Shill Maher's "incredibly irresponsible" move.

Real Time - Politically Incorrect was cancelled years before SOPA was drafted.

I've always thought of him as one of those guys where the smarm just rolls off of him in waves; even when I agree with him I want to smack him a little.

Pretty much spot on there. Even when he says something I agree with I can't help but think he just builds and smacks over straw men.
