With all these attempts to screw with civilization and progress you would begin to believe that the Mayans were right.

A bit of info: SOPA (now renamed OPEN) and PIPA are not the only big laws that intend to give more powers to those that hold Imaginary Property this year. We also have the research works act, see this for a start: http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/ ... vier-evil/

Little problem is that as this affects something more obscure than wikipedia or youtube, there's not a lot of loudness against it. But I think it is pretty stupid that tax payers wouldn't be able to look at research actually funded by them...

This is getting ridiculous, it's almost like they want civilization to collapse in absolute rage.

My dear departed uncle was a physicist and a federal government researcher and did a lot to further instrumentation and experimentation in materials science.

And he would lecture on that topic anywhere and to anyone. All over the world.

I'm not saying he was the second coming of einstein, but the research and resulting materials and methods he had a hand in have benefited mankind in ways nobody could have predicted. He was particularly involved in the discovery of superconducting materials that resulted in revolutions in medical imaging and chemical spectroscopy.

I'm pretty sure that my uncle would have looked for another job - probably in academia - if someone told him that he had to keep his research under wraps.

He was always about finding the work that was worth doing, and i don't think he would have felt that it was worth it if he couldn't share it with the whole world.

Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. We are at a key junction right now, I hope the right choices are made

i increasingly find myself in a situation where i question why people put up with the denizens of pluto,
