Seems a tad bizarre to me.

Apparently, Rwanda is prepared to accept them:

I recently watched the movie Dunki, about a small group of Indians risking their lives to get to England. It stars Bollywood heart-throb Shah Rukh Khan.

Makes one wonder why anyone would want to move to England of all places. It looks like Indians in England may tend to lie about how wonderful England is, while they are remitting most of the money they earn to relatives in India.

Several people died in an overcrowded small boat while trying to cross the channel from France

I don't really see the attraction. Why would England be better than France? I guess that the French police are just standing and watching--not trying to arrest anyone.

Let us press on with UK migrant plan, Rwanda tells critics

https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/let-us ... 024-04-26/

I wonder how this plan got started in the first place?

Maybe Rwanda would take migrants who entered the United States illegally?

Maybe it would be easier if people who wanted to move somewhere would just go to Rwanda directly?

I know people who've visited Rwanda. It's a very nice place. However, once there, you would need a way to support yourself. I guess most of these people would start businesses, I don't know.

Well it's a hell of a lot of money they've spent on this project if it doesn't work

Funny how this problem seems to have got worse since we left the EU..

In my opinion the EU should be processing these peoples claims for asylum as soon as they enter the bloc and allocate them pro rata to a desination country based on its population. Those whose claims are refused should be refused entry. No need for expensive hotels or flights to some random African country.

It's funny how the bill got through just before the next government get in so the Tories can blame them for its failure...

Labour have said they'll scrap it.

Well if that's their only solution to immigration then there's not much hope for anyone

The UK is in the toilet. We're literally a little island swimming in a sea of s**t. Why anyone would want to come here at all is a mystery to me

A lot of them speak English as their second language so the UK is attractive.

A good percentage have family or friends here too which I'd imagine is a big appeal if you have to leave your own country.

I'm actually fully in favour of people going wherever they like in the world. I think it's good for human survival but I understand that can't happen anymore so the least I can hope for is that people who wish to move around get treated like human beings

Unfortunately my naivety leaves me in a constant state of disappointment

You've got to have the infrastruture to take these people though:

Housing
Healthcare
Schools
Utilities (water etc)

You can't just let unlimited people into your country.

Yep!

Low wages across all sectors pretty much, compared to better and richer countries for working folk, and then a crippled welfare state for people who cannot work.

Crumbling public services, massive long waitings lists for the NHS, more and more people resorting to food banks and on and on...
