It's not the role of government to hand out free rubbers so therefor it's not the fault of the government that back alley abortions are on the rise.

This very true and sad. Even use of birth control is decreased in were places need them. If people had them less unsafe abortion whould have taken place my environmental science teacher said when the bush office took place. They pretty much cut out birth control and safe abortion out of US aid.

This is true, however, I think it's in the government's best economic interests to make sure people have access to reproductive health services. Everyone woman damaged or injured in a backstreet abortion is the loss of a potentially productive life. This is as true on a global scale as it is on a national one, since we live in a globalised economy.

Even if the women don't have a backstreet abortion, then you have the problems of overpopulation and a general lowering of living standards in developing countries. You don't get a productive workforce out of that.

Do any of you seriously think that any republican's goal is to increase the number of unsafe abortions?

No, it's just a side effect of their views when it comes to this sort of thing.

So, why is it that some would make such statements about republicans claiming it as an intended goal? It's like, enough with the slander games already.

Because it is such an obvious side effect that you would almost have to intentionally miss it.

They knew this would happen, they just didn't care.

To them it is all about so called moral code. What they did not relies the effect of taking a birth control out of aid would have bad effect on those needing help.

Bringing to light that abortion is a harmful and unnecessary procedure might go a long way to convincing the public that we should get rid of it as a regular medical practice. I don't buy the idea that republicans are conspiring to increase unsafe abortions. I'm just saying that IF that is what they are doing, then the purpose would be to eliminate it

So once it's no longer a regular medical practice, it becomes a dangerous clandestine operation. Brilliant!

It's not going to go away.

If it isn't their goal then they are doing something wrong.

Which takes me to the usual question: Would you rather have dumb leaders or evil leaders?

I prefer evil.

Yeah, it's not government's place to make a minor investment in order to avoid a big problem later.

Also, government is really inefficient.

I mean, they won't even do something as obvious as making a minor investment to avoid a big problem later.

That would involve a measure of intelligence, something most Republicans utterly despise.

This made me lol. I don't know if I agree or not though. The one good thing about ineptitude is that though it might be damaging, at least it won't work towards its own ends in ways that intentionally target those that might be most vulnerable to it...... Further, its easier to understand ineptitude then evil, and evil is often cunning enough to disguise itself......

But, whatever,
Aldran

Where, in the U.S. Constitution does it say the government is in the business of providing contraceptive devises to the public? Does giving away rubbers and diaphragms promote the general welfare, or does it promote the general promiscuity?
