If science reached an end and there was nothing left to discover about the universe?

I don't see how this is possible.

It is definitely possible that at some point, there will be a single theory of physics that describes all known phenomena.

At that point, there are still three tasks remaining:
(a) Figure out the best way to explain the theory to the layman.
(b) Work on subjects that are "bigger" than physics, e.g. chemistry, biology. Even if they ultimately reduce to physics, this usually isn't the best way to understand them.
(c) Try to find new phenomena!

When I was a kid I used to wonder if there was a limit to how much man can manipulate matter ( ie make technology) and wonder if we might hit a brick wall someday.


But both applied and theoretical science will probably continue as long as we dont misuse technology and destroy ourselves.

As the circle of light grows so does the circumference of darkness that surrounds it. Discoveries raise more questions than they answer.

If we knew everything, then we would be omniscient. Existence would be radically different than now, I would imagine. I would expect boredom to be rampant...

There was a short story about this years ago. Might have been called "brain waves".

Earth passed out of some kind of field in the universe which then allowed brain waves to move faster. Human civilization rapidly solved all of the mysteries of the Universe and fell into some kind of bored malaise. A small group of humans (those who were of subnormal intelligence before) realized something was wrong with the super-genius civilization and tried to create a rebel movement to change things back by creating a new field to inhibit thought.

Obviously there was nothing they could do that wasnt anticipated by the geniuses.

Nobody has the right to be a caesar, and nobody has the right to starve to death on the streets. Everyone has the right to basic dignity.

Then the only thing that would be left is our decisions on what to do with what we had. Odds are we'd just keep filling the universe with our own minds and our own data. That's at least one thing that may know at least as much if not more depth.

The good news, we'd be living unimagineably good lives in that scenario compared to what we are now so - trying to think of whether we'd want to self-terminate from boredom or not probably may not be as accurate through our lens.

Our tiny little planet is in constant change, and so is the universe as a whole. There will always be something new to discover. Just look at all the new diseases that have evolved in the last decades.
