I've noticed that we have a lot to say about the religion of Islam, I really feel that other threads cover it, so it shouldn't get any more attention here.

Instead, if you've learned anything about daily life of individuals living in these countries from experience (you live there) or sources ( you know people who live there), it would be interesting to know. I'll start with what I know.

1. "Write it on the ice" is like our way of saying "talk to the hand" in Iraq.

2. Iraqis like to give gifts to others on their birthday rather than receive them (at least in one instance)

3. Iraqis take deals seriously, if you offer to do something for free, they find it easy to turn down because they don't believe that something is given with no intention of reciprocation.

4. I saw this show on one of the public channels in the region ( could've been any one of the nationalities) where this guy who looked like moe(3 stooges moe) went around asking random people about science facts and awarded house appliances to correct answers. He also kissed the men he asked on both sides of the mouth as a formal greeting.

5. Some farmers in Iraq seemed to use very modern farming equipment

6. The Kurdish population up north doesn't consider themselves to be Arab or Iraqi and has an active interest in tourism.

I don't know if you'll find any of this enlightening or not, but if you have a region that you know something about, feel free to add to the thread, if you don't agree with my information, explain why.

No, a linguist I worked with asked me if I would buy him an electric razor from America and gave me some money. I told him that I would get him one, and that he didn't need to give me any money. He insisted though, and explained why.

How many star trek series are worth watching? I got into tng and ds9, but I found voyager hard to get into.
