I don't. The government takes from hard-working taxpayers and gives our money to less deserving people. It's like allowing ourselves to be bullied by less intelligent people (like most of us were in school) all over again.

Most religions believe stealing is wrong. Why should it be considered okay if it is politicians doing the looting (and then redistributing it)?

I strongly believe in A welfare system. The current system in place in the US and Canada strongly needs reform, however.
One of the prices of living in a civilised society is taking care of those less fortunate.
There ARE abusers of the system, yes, and they should be dealt with appropriately; but there are many who desperately need the help. Welfare is not, and should not, be a way of life. It is, and should be, there for those who need temporary assistance.
In my personal experience, I've found that those opposed to welfare have, in general, not once found themselves in a situation where they need that sort of help and therefore have no conception of what it's like to be in that situation, and therefore extrapolate that "Well if I can do it, anyone can." I've also found them to be almost overwhelmingly white, male, and upper-middle class and as such tend to have no concept of what it's like to be forced to decide whether to a) feed your family, or b) pay the rent. And I sincerely hope they never have to experience that, because I can tell you firsthand, it's not a fun decision to have to make. And, for the record, no, I've not been on welfare, but only by the skin of my teeth. (Note, this is my personal experience only. If you wish to take issue with it, feel free, but that's your deal, not mine.)
Welfare abusers, however, should be kicked squarely and repeatedly in the gonads.
I also think that you should be able to opt out of the welfare contributory taxes, but with the proviso that you are unable to apply yourself, if need be, for X period of time.
Anyhow, just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Well, I'm against the current welfare system but for helping people in a bad situation.

Makes good economic sense as well.

I'd like to see more money spent on helping people find and maintain careers.

Be nice if there was a bit more empathy towards the unemployed and more effort to understand what's going on, but lets face it people will yell at a butterfly just sitting there on a flower. You'll find someone angry at anything.
