Of next week it will possible to buy tax free alcohol on the internet. The EU has the power to overrule what Britain want to do. This mean cheep alcohol for and fags. More smokers and drinkers for the NHS and Police to pick the pieces. Georden brown will look elsewhere to rise the taxes lost or cut public spending, naturally effecting those who choose not to smoke or drink. 

HMRC (or the Customs component at least) is not the friendliest body in the world. They simply ignore what the law says and make it up as they go along. Customs can seize people's goods and cars when legally (or morally) they have no right to do so and you try getting your goods back off them. Basically, they are above the law.

There's no way on Earth the Customs people will accept this. Too much tax at stake for our wonderful government.

Yes. In the UK "fag" is slang for "cigarette".

They do the same thing here in Sweden. The fun thing is that our countries are actually violating the EU laws with that.

By the way, customs people and cops are as criminal scums themselves as the "real" criminals. Nice cops and customs people are by large exceptions.

He means people generally know what it means (through American TV, and so on) but people never use it in that sense here. It always refers to cigarettes.

I know people there watch "Seinfeld" and such, but people must have seen TV worse than that show.

Yeah, it's on TV here but most people I know don't watch it. British TV is filled with all sorts of cheap crap these days.

the thing is though, fags and alcohol are highly unfairly taxed here in the uk. if it wasn't for this fact, people wouldn't need to import cheap fags and drink from europe.

I consider this an issue against government and not taxes.. Quite frankly, why should these things be taxed over something else? Its hypocrisy at its finest

fags and boose are things that we do not need. They are both detremental to our sociaty especially here in Britain.
