Consider the sort of people republicans would propose for... A science and tech committee?

http://www.theverge.com/2012/11/28/3702 ... -committee

Quote:
GOP recommends Lamar Smith, SOPA author and global warming critic, as chairman of Science, Space, and Tech committee

No self respecting 'conservative' would read that headline and not feel utterly ashamed of supporting the BS party.

The last time conservatives said there was no such thing as greenhouse gasses we ended up with an ice age

Lamar Smith is one of the most despicable members of congress, the leadership of the GOP is pathetic.

While I think having a global warming skeptic as a chairman would be good, but some of his other views--mainly on medicine--are alarming. He's a Christian Scientist, and I can think of two things that are inaccurate about the name of that church! Creationists don't bother me because they can still work with science as it is relevant in present-day issues, but Christian Science teaches that all reality is supernatural/spiritual in nature, almost like a supernatural spinoff of being in the 1999 movie the Matrix.

There were no conservatives and greenhouse gasses were unknown at the start of the last ice age because the Gennus: Homo would not form an evolutionary branch for another quarter million years after the ice age started. Your statement resembles the animated movies about the ice age more than science.

With him I can never tell. Before I made that post I was debating whether to apply that old special olympics adage about arguing on the internet. I guess now is a good time to (just for this thread)...at least until there is more intelligent discussion here.

Why would that be a good thing?

I wonder if people who voted for him were aware of this? He's from Texas, and, although Texas voted for Romney, Texans generally don't care much for cults.

Because he won't blindly endorse or oppose any policy or budget based on questionable science. California has based it's policies on environmentalist (and other "progressive") agendas and the results are disastrous. It was once the 11th largest economy in the world (I haven't checked to see if that title still holds), but now it's rated the worst run state in the US, with massive debt, unemployment, cost of living, poverty, business-killing regulations, and other problems.

Even Europe is now facing the act that it has to re-evaluate it's green policies as well.

Anthropogenic climate change is not questionable science.

Tell that to Texas Gub'ner Rick and his fundie friends, who sought to fill a stadium full of like minded people to pray and fast, and bash gays and liberals. They were of the opinion that Texas is going to be a leading light during the end times - which contradicts Sarah Palin who's said that exalted position will go to Alaska.

There is no Climate Science. There are Climate Models. the underlying science is thermodynamics and fluid dynamics. Climate has both natural drivers and anthropogenic drivers. The question is: which is the major driver. Will becoming "carbon paupers" really affect air and water temperatures? This is a problem since the underlying processes are both chaotic and highly non-linear. They are mathematically intractable and we are forced to use model. But how do we validate models?

Texas seems to be doing well economically and technologically so they must be doing something right.

One could say pretty much the same thing about my home state of Washington, and we're just about as blue as a blue state can get.

Yes, well Texas has a lot more to offer than oil.
What does Saudi have to offer besides oil and terrorists?
