How did you come to the realization that conservatism is the way the truth and the light?

but if you have come for a battle of witts

In my own opinion, James Knox Polk is the greatest President to ever have served, and Benjamin Franklin is the greatest American of all time. I don't read much in the way of political books, my favorite non-fiction author is JRR Tolkein. I'm a recreational writer and would give both my legs to be able to write like he could.

I don't believe that there is any one 'truth and light', and I think a lot of the conservative party is misguided, inept, or corrupt. However, the revolting continuation of appeasement of rogue nations and international grovelling sponsored by the democrats is mainly what causes me to be a conservative.

Coming up through public high school, I listened to all the anti-US claptrap coming from the establishment. Andrew Jackson was called a butcher. The fight against communism was called paranoia. Much ado was made about the US's involvement in Nicaragua. The Israel/Palestine situation was discussed. With the exception of Palestinian terrorists attacking Israelis with bombs and rockets. That was ignored. The situation was presented in the black and white view that Israel was living on Palestine's land and they wanted it back.

Then, the two towers came down.

Can you imagine a world where you don't have the freedom to post what you want to on the internet? Can you imagine living in a world where you can be arrested without cause, dragged from your home, imprisoned, tortured, and beheaded, without ever being charged of a crime? Can you believe the sheer imbecility of the people who say that the US is becoming these things?

If you haven't noticed, the world is a very hostile place these days. The fact that we've lost control of Baghdad is all over the news, and the Hezbollah/Israel war hasn't been over for a month. On the front page of Yahoo is a story about the increasing gruesomness of the Mexican drug wars.

What I am is someone who is not afraid to say I am better than any person who does not condemn radical Islam fully and unconditionally. And the left cannot criticize Islam without saying "but..." afterwards. That is, the near left... the far left, the terrorist sympathizers and supporters, are deranged. I don't call for them to be silenced or locked up because I believe in freedom of speech, and do not see any way that limiting it will NOT become the 'cure worse than the disease', so to speak, because I hold libertarian principles where the gov't is concerned.

I am also of the opinion that World War 3 is coming, and it is inevitable. Europe and the Left do not have the heart to fight Islam the way it needs to be fought, and they won't until someone launches a nuke attack. Just like in World War 2, when they wouldn't admit that the German invasion was a problem until they were marching into Paris, or wouldn't admit that the Japanese were a problem until Pear Harbor was bombed.

Islam-apologism, anti-semitism, prejudice against the United States, Bush Derangement Syndrome, love of abortion but hatred of the death penalty, these are the things that drove me to conservativism.

I came to understanding of conservative thought being the way through classical philosophy and History. My first ever political book was Edmunde Burke, at one point had the federalist papers memorized,then Locke Paine, Hobbes, Machiavelli, nietzche, plato, aquinas. I studied Rome, what they did right and wrong. THe thing is law only works in light of tradition. My favorite presidents are the founding five, jackson polk, coolidge and Reagan.Teddy rooselvt gets an honorable mention for the panama canal. Favorite leaders past and present, Franco, pinochete, the shah, prime minister Junichiro Koizumi, ian smith, vervoot, otto von Bismarck, Jeane Marie lepen, Jorg Haider, Peter the Great Catherine the Great, vlad the impaler, charles martel, don juan of austria, cato and rodrigo diaz.

I'm still puzzled by the number of left leaning aspies on this board. I figured more would be moderate Libertarians like myself.

That having been said, I tend to support Republicans and conservatives more often, not because I think conservatives are great, but because they are a notch or two less f*cked up than the liberals are. Both have stupid BS they belive in.
