Now don't get me wrong, what these guys are chanting is extremely offensive, vulgar, misogynist, and politically incorrect to the extreme. However, WTF ever happened to the 1st amendment on American College Campuses? I'm not condoning this behavior nor defending what's being said, but they have a constitutional right to express their repugnant ideas, and obviously they don't have a right to act out the deeds described by those words. That being said, I really think there should be some legal recourse against the University for expelling these frat boys for exercising their constitutional rights. Where is the ACLU when you actually need em..............

They were expelled for THAT?!? Of all the things that go on at frat houses...

Goes towards what I've always said the "tolerance" bunch are really only tolerant when its towards things they are already in favor of. They are the most intolerant a**holes in the world when its something they dislike.

If no one is really hurt, why does it matter? Feelings don't count.

Neither, they are against being tolerant when someone does something which they dislike, such as chanting "No means Yes, Yes means anal".

No liberty for the enemies of liberty, eh? Where have I heard that before...

Yale is a private institution, so the first amendment doesn't apply. The FA only protects you from the government restricting your speech. Those people being expelled is the same as an employer firing them or a bar owner kicking them out because he/she didn't like what they were saying.

Such stuff makes the institution look like a joke and as an "Ivy League" school their prestige/reputation is very important to them (not much respect goes to places like Chico State a.k.a. "best party college in California"). I'm not defending Yale (or the frat boy nonsense, either), but the university's reaction is not surprising. If the internet didn't exist those guys probably wouldn't have been expelled.

Louis de Saint-Just, shocking I know I have interests outside of economics. I just found it funny that the whole "IF you tolerate intolerance you are not a liberal" platitude never took into account that if you do not tolerate intolerance, then you are intolerant of intolerance and therefore not a liberal. Like so many silly liberal sayings it's kind of circular.

Why would the first amendment apply on a campus? If you are on somebody else's property, your constitutional rights might be limited by the property owner, or in this case by the college administration. I've read that weapons are strictly forbidden on college campuses, so the 2nd amendment doesn't apply there either. I think there aren't many places where US citizens can fully exercise their rights.

But even if the 1st amendment did apply in this case, does it protect thinly veiled threats of rape? The slogan "yes means no" basically tells female students "if we hit on you and you say no, we will force ourselves on you". I think I'd find that quite threatening if I was a woman, at least if a horde of hormone-challenged juvenile males were chanting it right outside my dorm building.

Somehow I doubt that such chants would be threats of rape unless a person is lets say HYPER-sensitive and if anything it would prevent them from having women come to their frat parties for a long freaking time.

It's not that different from when a bunch of my friends and I showed up at a feminist rally against prostitution carrying a banner that said "No to prostitution, you girls should put out for free" and chanting that throughout the demonstration.

I thought that feminists were in favour of prostitution?
