Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I have something I need to get off of my chest.
I don't know how many of you follow the religious side of the news, but over the past few days there's been a lot of news coming out of the Methodist General Conference that has personally disappointed me. To make a long story short, they voted first to do away with guaranteed appointments and to not divest from Israel. Yesterday, with a full-blown protest going on in the back, they voted to keep members of the LGBT community out of the Church and shut down the session early due to the protest.
The first two issues, while somewhat discearning, don't really bother me that much. But yesterday's issue, probably for the first time in my life, made me ashamed to be a Methodist. Even though I'm straight and don't have any friends who are LGBT, I personally felt that not only it was a shortsided move but the manner in which it was handled was completely unprofessional. Personally, I don't view people of the LGBT community as sinners or wrongdoers. I may not agree with their views of sexuality, but I also feel I, as a human, am not fit to judge them the way that they were judged by the delegates yesterday. I've always felt that it's impossible to comprehend what exactly God thinks is right or wrong since we're imperfect beings and He's, well, God.
I still plan to be a Christian and a Methodist after all this, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'll agree with their Book of Discipline 100%. I personally believe that ALL people are equal in God's eye, no matter what they may do or believe. So from the bottom of this Methodist's heart, if you think badly on Methodism after this week's Conference, on behalf of them, I apologize.
