DAMN GOOD though.

Thanks Aunt Jemima for rotting my teeth out.

You should have brushed your teeth with Darkie Toothpaste after!

It is now called "Darlie" toothpaste.

By the way, aren't some of you going to get spankings for having posted "offensive" images?

Are you offended?

It's a negative picture

I can see how Aunt Jemima is a racist image, as she resembles the old "happy mamie" stereotype.
I think Uncle Ben, however, looks like a distinguished gentleman. Kind of like the African-American equivalent of the Quaker Oats guy.

I buy Uncle Ben's but not Aunt Jemima. Not for racial reasons, I just don't usually buy syrup.

What do the Irish here think about Ronald McDonald?

Indeed it is. It is something that did exist though; Aunt Jemima used to look pretty well stereotyped..

I think they changed this around the time that Darkie became Darlie. I read somewhere that in their Chinese product label it still means "Black Man toothpaste" or something

I thought Ronald McDonald was just your typical homicidal American clown. I mean, the look on his face is more than slightly disturbing. 8O

Apart from his surname, there's nothing Irish about Ronald McDonald. He's an all-American homicidal clown of Irish descent. If his name was Sean McDonald and he wore a big shamrock in his lapel, I might be offended.

I freaking love that BK guy. He's creepy in an awesome way - I wish they would make some more commercials with that character.

I take it you don't like the Lucky Charms guy?

He might be offensive to creepy white guys.

He's a leprechaun. Leprechauns are supposed to guard their pot of gold (or cereal, I guess). He's cheesy, but he's also a mythological creature, so he gets a pass from me.

I don't remember being offended by products because of the races they depict, but I'm starting to wonder if I should be.

Given the availability of high quality rice and good rice cookers, why would anyone buy processed rice products?

On the pancake and syrup front, I tend to the view that making my own pancake batter, and a liberal application of real maple syrup is the appropriate course of action for brunch. But if I was going to choose to go the convenience route, then I would certainly buy the cheaper processed product over the name brand.

The fact that the brands maintain racist stereotypes doesn't really enter into my purchasing decisions.

Whilst Aunt Jemina and Uncle Ben come from the states, my own country came up with this:

I even remember that advert in the '80s.

Aunt Jemina is a racist figure and a sterotype of black americans.
