Aren't they similar in terms of intelligence?

No, my friend. Think beyond the role pattern here. My dog can do more than some mentally-disabled humans and infants, but some mentally-disabled humans can do much more than dogs and infants and some infants do a lot better than mentally-disabled humans. It all depends on the animal, infant or mentally-disabled human you're comparing.

Most infants are very smart. It takes a while to see just how smart they are. Within a year or so they go from 0 languages to 1. They go from non-abstract thinking to abstract thinking in a matter of months.

Most mammalian young are born further developed than human infants, but human infants very rapidly outpace and outrun other mammalian biota in a mental sense within a year. Their co-ordination and physical skills take a bit longer.

Speciesism needs to go. We can't keep treating animals badly just because they are not human.

We don't have to treat animals badly if they are not harming us. But it is foolish to treat animals as though they are equal to humans. Humans are the smartest mammals on the planet, at this juncture.

Not ALL humans are smart though. Not all humans are aware of their surroundings to the same degree as some chimps or dolphins.

I don't see why a new born baby gets more rights than a pig.

An unborn baby has more rights than the newborn baby and the pig

Rights is a concept made up by humans and an attribute assigned by humans.

Rights are not natural objects or states. They are the product of convention

Well then, let's assign rights based on things like awareness, not species.

Degree of awareness is very species related.

Better we should refrain from killing or destroying things which are not harmful to us.

If nature didn't make animals taste so good, there would probably be a lot more vegetarians.
