Why are there People with Asperger's Syndrome who are Islamophobic ?

Do any of you know any Muslims or have any Muslim Friends or CoWorkers or Married to a Muslim ?

There are people with AS who are Islamophobic presumably for the same reasons there are NTs who are Islamophobic.

Yes, I have many Muslim friends.

I'm not phobic of Muslims. Yes I have loads of Muslim friends/family. Islam has zero appeal to me but I know there is no need to fear the people I know. It's harsh when I hear someone say "Muslims do this/that" but not so harsh that I'm incredibly upset about it. Usually it makes me feel nauseated and then it passes. I think because I've been a target of violence and had to deal with fearing for the safety of my family, especially after 9/11. So that attitude gets to me a little.

I assume the reasons people with AS are would be similar to the reasons NTs are. Most of the U.S. Muslims I know have assimilated so well and keep their religious stuff private(many of the Muslims I know, their co-workers don't even know they're Muslims) it's hard for people to realize they're all over the place and they're not so different from the rest of us. Maybe different from those who don't believe in a god but we deal with being surrounded by other religions etc. so I don't have more of a problem with Muslims than anyone else, if I have a problem at all.

If that was the prevailing attitude here I doubt we'd have nearly as much trouble. I feel sorry for peaceable, integrated Muslims in many ways - they get a lot of stick related to the (considerable, let's be honest) dickheads that also practice Islam.

There are lots of people of many kinds that are Islamophobic.

Islam is definitely a stupid belief though.

It really depends on how loosely you use the term 'Islomophobic'. If you mean people who believe there's a problem with democratic republics allowing Sharia courts, arbitrations, family honor killings, etc., that's a major civil ethics issue. If someone can see that but also realizes that its not all Muslims - that's not Islomophobic, that's just them not having their heads in the sand.

As far as 'nuke em all's, there might be a few aspies like that but its a bit rare.

My friend is dating a Palestinean. She's pretty secularized with it though (otherwise generally Muslims will not date/marry non-Muslims). She had an arranged marriage that worked out horribly, she's been single for years raising her son and she still hasn't introduced my friend to her parents because her brother is going to be marrying another Muslim and if word gets out that she is dating a non-Muslim she's indicated that the other family (her brother's potential wife's family) may call the marriage off. Her mom loves her and her immediate family might be shocked but they'd accept him in likely after they got over the shock. Regardless though they have to worry about her dating a non-Muslim being a bit of a black mark socially.

Tequila, I don't understand what you're saying when you mention the "mosque at ground zero", could you clarify?

Minneapolis and St. Paul is where I hear the most interesting things happening. A lot of Somali immigrants bringing with them things that many of their fellow diaspora were hoping to leave behind.

There are Muslim Palestineans and Christian Palestineans.

I've gone to school with Muslims, my second boss was a Nizari Ismaili (and a wonderful person to work for most of the time, the times he wasn't having nothing whatsoever to do with his religion/ethnicity), and I have several Muslims friends.

that had absolutely nothing to do with supremacy or "agitation", wasn't actually remotely near ground zero, and wasn't a Mosque either, it was a cultural center that had no affiliation whatsoever with extremists.

and since some of the victims of the attack were Muslims, building a mosque nearby is not more a provocation than building a chapel would be. not, I repeat, that it was even remotely "nearby" except in the sense it was in Manhattan.

Because having AS is no defence against bigotry, and some might make a Special Interest of bigotry.

That said, I have no Muslim friends. Not least because I don't have friends.
